Ok, here are the issues I'm having & yes I run a lot of anti programs including Advanced System Care which some say they love & a few people say caused problems.

Honestly I can't remember when the problems started, at least 4-6 months ago & it may have started after I bought the ASC, but I just exited out of it & still no change.

1. I click on "my computer", & it takes about 20-30 seconds to let me have access to the window. That's even after rebooting which I just did.

That also happens with Fx, but when I've rebooted, everything is very quick until I leave the computer & come back, then it takes several minutes to let me have access.

Also in the last several days I'm having problems with TB (thunderbird) & I didn't have hanging problems with TB b4.

2. This is the most frustrating thing.

At first I thought it was the site, but then it started happening on 3 different sites & after bitching & arguing, I have to admit it may very well be on my end.

Either:

a) www.cj.com

when I login into the membership area (main index page is fine), the CSS files don't load so I can't do anything within the site. Others don't have this problem. That's on both Fx & IE.

b) www.odesk.com

When I go to edit one of our job postings, it won't let me save it saying the start date is wrong even though it's not.

After weeks of them testing it, it works fine in Fx for them, but not for me. I just tried it again & Fx just came out w/ an update & still can't do it.

In IE it works fine <sigh>

c) www.freedomvoice.com

Tried to upload audio files & make changes to my acct., can't do it in Fx, only in IE.

They say they tested it & there's nothing wrong. Now I didn't try it out after shutting down Fx which I should have done & I don't want to touch anything to test it b/c it's the way I want it now.

My assistant also had this problem in Safari & Fx, but he's on a MAC & you know most coders can't code properly for MACs, so that doesn't really tell me much.

d) www.Hyperoffice.com

I add a new day in the notes area & instead of it taking me back to the last window, it takes me all the way back to the folders area.

It's intermittent & they claim there's no problem on their end.

I do have to say one thing. Most if not all of these sites are poorly coded I think. I'm not a coder, but I know how sites work & I can tell when it's garbage code.

The thing is, no one else is having the problem. I have the latest version of Fx, I hate IE, sometimes the site works on IE, but I don't use IE daily enough to know if it's just Fx or what is going on.

It's stressing me out, wasting my time, PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

Michelle

Well, in response to your comments about the Advanced System Care by IObits...you may want to take a look at this info and think about whether you DO want to keep this program at all.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=29681

With these two below please note that both links received "This site has a poor reputation" or Ethical Issues problems. Do you want a program on your computer whose own website is questionable?

http://blog.iobit.com/archives/95.html

http://www.iobit.com/avg-com.html

You have CCleaner running at start up, totally unnecessary, along with a LOT of other unnecesary auto starts. Your Java program is out of date. You have software running for two different graphics cards...which do you have?

Thank you.

So after removing IOBit, now my computer is even worse than before :(

Now I can't get other programs to open when I click on them, I have to wait like 30-40 seconds b4 they are recognized.

I had problems w/ Malware (Anti Vir noticed this) & I made the mistake of deleting my Fx profile by accident b/c that's where the malware was & it wouldn't stop notifying me when I clicked delete or quarantine.

I reinstalled Fx & it wouldn't work, a lot of sites were being blocked & we couldn't figure out why b/c nothing in the settings was blocking it.

When I was finally able to accept the one site that supposedly wasn't trusted (it was hanging when I tried to accept it yesterday), that somehow allowed all the sites to start loading.

<sigh>

Now I'm having the problem with being able to click on an open program & get it to move right away.

How do you delete programs from startup?

I updated Java, but I really don't think any of these things are causing these problems.

As for the graphics card, that was an issue from the moment we reformatted & reinstalled everything about a year ago.

We couldn't figure out how to get rid of this message about the graphics card, so we just left it as I had to get back to work & it took me 3 days to get my computer back to working order.

How do I figure out about the Graphics card?

Thanks

Michelle

Waiting six days between posts isn't going to help the machine. Hopefully you can stick with this and maybe we can sort it out.

You need to only have the drivers on there from the current card, not the old one. So you have to uninstall the wrong driver and leave the driver for the card that you have in there now. Probably what you did during the reformat was to install the driver for the old card by mistake.
One item that can cause problems is Spybot TeaTimer. You should TURN it OFF and leave it off.
Here is how to do that:

* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
* If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
select
Advanced Mode
* On the left hand side, click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident icon in the list
* Uncheck
Resident TeaTimer
and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer

I had problems w/ Malware (Anti Vir noticed this

)
I am not certain what you mean by that statement. Do you mean that Avira FOUND malware or that there was a problem with the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program. There is no reason for Avira to do anything or note anything about that program.

What firewall are you running? Now of course this could be some sort of infection, but since I have seen no logs I cannot say. Have you run a scan with an updated MBA-M? If you have not please update and run a full scan. Have it remove whatever it finds. Post back with the log after rebooting your computer.

Ok thank you for looking into this further for me.

1. I removed tea timer
2. I don't know how to tell which graphics card I have in order to remove the drivers that aren't needed, so can you pls. tell me.
3. Did MBA & here's the log...

4. I'll post another HJT log after I finish here.
5. Anti Vir "said" it found malware when I was mousing over a site in a Google Search Result www.worldtimeclock.com

I tried to delete it, then it popped up again & I tried to quarantine it, but it kept popping up, so stupid me went & deleted my Fx profile (which is where it was located) by accident.

Now I lost everything from Fx & Carbonite for some reason never backed up the profile. They still haven't gotten back to me.

Turns out (according to my assistant) it was probably a false positive re: a JS file.

So after all that, there was no malware.

Since I've reinstalled Fx & had problems accessing sites which I somehow managed to fix, I've been having other problems like I click on an e-mail message in TB & it brings up that e-mail in a window even though I didn't double click on it.

I'm still having problems with not being able to get My Computer to load quickly. It still takes at least 30 seconds to bring up my drivers.

The other problem I had yesterday seems to have disappeared so that's a good sign.''

Still having problems where Yahoo IM shuts down either when there's a glitch in electrical current or I'm adjusting my router & it won't load again. I have to physically shut it down & restart it to get it to do anything. It just hangs.

6. I don't have a firewall via software. I stopped using ZA ages ago & just rely upon my router's firewall & no I don't use MS's firewall although it loves to tell me I should.

Thanks

You didn't have MBA-M fix the items found. Update it again, run another Full Scan and have it remove whatever is found.
Reboot, then do the following:
Run the ESET Online Scanner and attach the ScanLog with your post for assistance.

* You will need to use Internet Explorer to to complete this scan.
* You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.

* Be sure the option to Remove found threats is checked and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
* When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.

Reboot.
Run a new HJT scan and save the log. Please be certain that wordwrap is NOT on.
Post back with all three logs.

I did delete what it found, but I ran it again anyway & it didn't find anything...

You left the wordwrap on for your HJT log. Can you post it again with wordwrap off? It is very difficult, if not impossible, to read.
Is the E drive an internal or external drive used for storage maybe?
All of the infected items found by the ESET scanner are in the same folder on this drive:
E:\E-mails\

So sorry, forgot about that. My apologies.

I turned off, but I'm not sure if it actually did anything since the file was saved.

Is this what you want?

As for your other questions no, I don't use another HD, but I do have Carbonite, but that's a web based backup program, so I figured that doesn't count.

As for that folder, that's where I store all my e-mail.

I can find the e-mails in question if I knew their subject line & who they are from.

Thanks

Michelle

I am a bit confused here. You say you don't have a different hard drive. But these infected files show clearly as being on a different drive that where your operating system is located, which is "C" drive. The Folder is found on "E" drive, meaning the drive is on your computer. Is this a flash drive or something like that?
What IS "E" drive?
Open My Computer and see how many drives are listed. The infected folder is on "E" drive and it is named E-mails.
You also still have an IObit program on the computer, I thought you said you removed it. It clearly shows as running when the HJT scan was done:C:\Program Files\IObit\IObit SmartDefrag\IObit SmartDefrag.exe
There is absolutely no reason a defrag program should be running all the time on the computer. As noted before the IObit programs are really VERY questionable...ALL of them.

The scan is not going to tell you the subject line of the email or who it was from. It is only going to tell you what the infection is.
Here they are again as shown in that ESET scan. It is quite possible the entire FOLDER shown is infected. I know I wouldn't want to take the chance.

E:\E-mails\HackersSpammers.dbx Win32/Badtrans.29020.A worm unable to clean
E:\E-mails\Inbox.dbx Win32/Bagle.J worm unable to clean
E:\E-mails\Poly_amory Yahoo Group.dbxWin32/Klez.J worm unable to clean

ALL of those infections found are particularly nasty.

Try updating and running a scan on "E" drive with your Avira program. If it finds the infections please allow it to clean them.
If it doesn't seem to clean them in Normal Mode then try running it in safe mode.
You are going to HAVE to get those files off of there, if it means DELETING the ENTIRE folder.

<sigh>

Ok, yes I still had the Defrag one on there b/c I never remember to defrag & I loved the fact that the program would do it for me.

Do you know of any other program that does that?

I removed it.

Ok, I don't consider E to be an external drive. It's just a partition of C, but yes, you are correct, it doesn't have the OS on it, only C can have that.

I'll run Anti Vir & see what happens.

God getting rid of the entire folder I don't know what to do :( I can't, I have thousands of e-mails that I need to access. I run a biz, these aren't personal e-mails, although I see one folder I can delete (the poly one).

Thanks

Mich

Any chance you know how to tell Anti vir to scan only one drive?

I doubt it's going to find it b/c it scans every day & it hasn't found it. I hate it when Anti Vir doesn't find these things. One has to trust their anti virus program.

k, figured it out, it's scanning now.

T/y

Nope, both in regular & safe mode it found nothing <sigh>

Mich

Ok, let's try this a different way, maybe be able to figure out if this is a false positive or not.
Go to http://virusscan.jotti.org/en
There you and upload each of these files singly and allow them to be scanned by 20+ different scanners and see if they come up with the same findings.
It is very simple to do. You will enter the name of each on in the window you see there and have it scanned. You will be presented with a report on each one. Come back here with those reports. These are the files you need to upload:

E:\E-mails\HackersSpammers.dbx
E:\E-mails\Inbox.dbx
E:\E-mails\Poly_amory Yahoo Group.dbx

Don't give up, we will get this "licked" yet!
Judy

EDIT: for now don't worry about the defragging. For one thing, you can see it obviously had no affect on speeding the computer. That is minor at this time but we will discuss it once we get the computer cleaned up.

Hi Judy,

Thank you :) I finally have your name.

Ok, I don't see where to get a report. Are you wanting me to take a screenshot & paste it into paint?

Also, which anti virus program do you think is the best? I see many that found threats while of course Anti Vir didn't. :(

Michelle

Ok, so here's what we figured out.

1. The e-mails weren't from TB, they were in my old Outlook which I don't use & only have around in case I have to search an old old e-mail, so I just deleted the folders to save time.

2. I rescanned with ESET & it found a new threat & deleted it, but I'm not sure if the path I'm seeing is the correct path or what since it's in program files.

It didn't find the other 3 threats, so that's great :)

Do I need to send you another HJT log?

Here's the ESET one...

C:\Program Files\FileChecker\filechecker.exe probably a variant of Win32/Genetik trojan cleaned by deleting - quarantined

Thanks Judy, I'm getting happier now that stuff is being found & removed.

Would still like to know which anti virus program I should be using if bloody Anti Vir isn't working.

Michelle :)

I do need a new HJT log. What makes you think Anti-Vir isn't working? The last item found was a Trojan. Normally anti-virus programs are not geared to protect against Trojans, viruses yes, Trojans no. They WILL catch them occasionally in a scan but this is why it is always recommended to use more than one program for scanning at all times. Personally, I have used Anti-vir for over two years, I use MBA-M for my other scanner program. You need a firewall to help protect against Trojans and other malware along with proper browser settings and SpywareBlaster, a MUST have protection program, and it is FREE.
Judy

I already use Spyware blaster.

Are you saying I should get the paid versions of the above & MBA?

I stopped using Zone Alarm years ago after it started causing problems with something. Now I just rely upon my router's firewall.

I'm still having problems with being able to access programs on the computer without having to wait for them to open.

My Computer & again Fx when I got to my desk earlier.

Also I keep scanning with ESET, & it keeps finding a new threat each time I scan (in those Outlook e-mails I have). Why isn't it finding them all at once?

Here's the log:

Here's the other one it found...

E:\E-mails\SD.dbx JS/Kak worm unable to clean

I deleted the folder & will scan again.

Mich

Think it is time for a big gun.
Do the following:

The first thing you should do is print out this guide, as we will close all the open windows and programs, including your web browser, before starting the ComboFix program.
Download ComboFix
Click on the Save button, and when it asks you where to save it, make sure you save it directly to your Windows Desktop. It MUST be saved there. DO NOT RUN it YET

* Close all open Windows including this one.
* Close or disable all running Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix.

Once these two steps have been completed, double-click on the ComboFix icon found on your desktop. Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.
Windows may issue a prompt because ComboFix does not have a digital signature. This is perfectly normal and safe and you can click on the Run button to continue.
ComboFix is now preparing to run and when it has finished you will see the Disclaimer screen you should press the number 1 key and then press the enter key to continue.
ComboFix will create a System Restore point so that if any problems occur while using the program you can restore back to your previous configuration. When ComboFix has finished creating the restore point, it will then backup your Windows Registry.
Once the Windows Registry has finished being backed up, ComboFix will disconnect your computer from the Internet. Therefore, do not be surprised or concerned if you receive any warnings stating that you are no longer on the Internet as your connection will be completely restored at a later stage in the program.

ComboFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections. This procedure can take some time, so please be patient.
While the program is scanning your computer, it will change your clock format, so do not be concerned when you see this happen. When ComboFix is finished it will restore your clock settings to what they were previously. You will also see the text in the ComboFix window being updated as it goes through the various stages of its scan.

When ComboFix has finished running, you will see a screen stating that it is preparing the log report
This can take a while, so please be patient. If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
When ComboFix has finished, it will automatically close the program and change your clock back to its original format. It will then display the log file automatically
You should now post this log here when all is complete.
Judy

Ok, found some time to do this.

I can't understand a thing the log file said, I hope you can :)

First thing I note is that you have continued to add new programs even though the computer is not cleaned. If you really want your computer cleaned you need to stop adding software unless directed to do so. Installing new software is never a good idea on a dirty machine, especially OpenCandy whose very own website is listed by Web Of Trust as having a very poor reputation. The program is noted on many links given by a simple google search as spyware, adware, malware, here is just one example

Please do the following:
Open HijackThis and choose Misc. Tools. When that opens choose Uninstall Manager button.
Then click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into a reply

commented: Judy is a very nice person. She has taken the time to help me clean out my computer & I will be forever grateful to her. Thank you Judy +6

Ok, first off, I NEVER installed this candy software. I don't even remember the site, so how in the world did it get installed :( I'm trying to think if I installed something new & it was under a different name or what.

What site should I be using to investigate a software's reputation b4 DLing it?

The only new software I installed recently was a program that is supposed to tell me when what I have on my computer is an old version & then it gets me to install the new version.

I figured it would help me remember to actually use software that I forget is there.

BUT, I can't find it on my taskbar anymore (since we used that program that changed a lot of my settings) & I don't remember what it's called.

I won't install anything new. I didn't know I couldn't.

Here is the list & thank you Judy:

I NEVER installed this candy software.

Well, it may have come in with something else, not sure.
Take a look at these entries from your combofix log...

2009-11-17 18:58 . 2009-11-17 18:58 -------- d-----w- c:\program files\Xobni
2009-11-17 18:57 . 2009-11-17 18:57 5021168 ----a-w- c:\documents and settings\Michelle\Application Data\OpenCandy\Xobni_OC16.exe
2009-11-17 18:57 . 2009-11-17 18:57 -------- d-----w- c:\documents and settings\Michelle\Application Data\OpenCandy
2009-11-17 18:57 . 2009-11-17 18:57 100113 ----a-w- c:\documents and settings\Michelle\Application Data\CBS Interactive\CNET TechTracker\uninst.exe
2009-11-17 18:57 . 2009-11-17 18:57 -------- d-----w- c:\documents and settings\Michelle\Application Data\CBS Interactive

There is where the OpenCandy shows...all four of those items were run at exactly the same time...if those are all new then it is one of the other programs running at the same time I believe...either Xobni or that CBS Interactive. I may be wrong but none of those show any other time in the log.

What site should I be using to investigate a software's reputation b4 DLing it?

google is your best bet. Look for Reviews from legitimate PC sites...
Also, Install Web Of Trust which is a browser add-on for both IE and Firefox which gives information about the website you are visiting. If you are considering installing a new piece of software go to their OWN web site to get it. If the "parent" website itself gets a bad rating from Web Of Trust then DON'T download the software from ANYWHERE. If their own web site gets a bad rating then don't trust the program they are selling or giving away either.

The only new software I installed recently was a program that is supposed to tell me when what I have on my computer is an old version & then it gets me to install the new version.

Quite honestly these programs are just...so-so. Best way to check if software is up to date is very often through the software itself. Many have options via their Help to check for updates. Honestly, if it works don't worry about it. May sound silly, but sometimes the old "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" works just fine. If the software works for you then don't fret over it.

Now how about updating MBA-M and doing a new full scan with it, following the usual procedures. Let's see what is going on. Post the log of course, along with a new HJT log.
Judy

EDIT: by any chance did you notice the slowing of the computer AFTER installing IE8? Many people have problems with it, slowing being one of them. IE8, while offered to those of us running XP is really built for Vista and the new Windows 7. It isn't something you HAVE to install.

Ok, I FINALLY found the program I installed the other day, it's called CNET Tech Tracker.

I saw that Xobni & didn't know what that was either although it looks interesting, but I don't use Outlook anymore, so why would I install it?

The CBS thing, I would remember if I went to the network's website, so I didn't DL that either. Geeze.

Yeh I had webtrust installed b4 I deleted my bloody profile. It's not always accurate I just want you to know.

Click Tale got on there & they have a great program. I told them about it & they were shocked.

I reinstalled it.

k, will do MBA in a moment.

Thanks :)

Mich

P.S. I uninstalled the Xobni, but CAN'T find the Open Candy in there, is there another name for it?
