I have some issues while playing video games on my computer. The games would be Soldier of fortune, call of duty, starcraft just to name a few. I have researched informatoin regarding outdated drivers, which i have updated. Outdated BIOS (which i never figured out), and quite possibly conflicting ram from my SDRAM to my graphics card.

my specs are:

Anthlon 2400+
512 SDRAM
64mb GeForce4 MX 440

I've seen someone post a Log file from a HiJackThis program. Below is mine. Any help is much appreciated as this has been happening for awhile. I recently bought a new Windows xp home edition and was getting a blue screen prior to that install. Now i just get windows error messages and report the probelm. Before i installed windows the blue screen showed IRQL not less or equal value.

Thanks,

Dayton

welcome to Daniweb

Ok, Well first run windows update if you havnt already install anything you might think is useful. Also does it just crash and restart itself? OR does it crash to a blue screen? Also that HJT log would og into the spyware section. But i Doubt its spyware.

Yes i was taking advantage of windows update now that i purchased one last week. I had a trial version for quite some time and wasn't able to update. so what happens is when I play the game is in about 15 minutes or so the game encounters an error and then asks me to report the problem. It closes then i'm unable to play for awhile again. It doesn't, or hasn't i should say, crashed into a blue screen like it used to. Before I installed windows xp home. I wasn't sure if this is a hardware issue or a software issue.

Thanks for the invite, and for any help.

Dayton

So i suppose there's no fix or no one has any idea's? I'm at a loss here because it used to work like a year ago... I was away from my computer for awhile and then got it back was having issues. i ended up purchasing windows and thought that would solve it but nope...

Well thanks anyways~

Dayton

Can you give us the specifics of the error messages that you receive when your games crash?

Furthermore, what do you mean when you say, "unable to play for awhile again"? Do you mean that when you try to launch the game again, you get an error? If so, what is the specific error message that you get?

thanks for the reply. Well in the actual game there's no error it just shuts down and then a windows screen pops up and asks me if I would like to report the error to microsoft... (Which does nothing by the way) Also I get the same results while playing starcraft. Also call of duty which made me believe the problem was to do online but I tried starcraft on single player and it still had the same issue.

I would try and restart the game yet I crash much sooner the second time around. Same issue just windows reporting a error

I was curious if this would be something to do with a power supply problem but when i upgraded my motherboard i got a new one. This was 3 years ago however. I can find more specs about my computer if needed.

Thanks

Dayton

Ps. I actually played the game again and when i got the error message I found where it was in my cpu and typed it into the run command. It was a text file and here's what it contained:

Honestly im not sure about the error. But you say you purchased windows update? Its free..., assuming you have windows installed and activated. To run windows update goto

start>all pograms>windows update

install what you think you need.

Another option you may want to ry is just reinstalling the game[s]. Perhaps they need to reconfigure themselves, due to a recent hardware change or somthing similar... I would look into that.

Nah I wasn't saying that I purchased windows update. I purchased windows XP home LoL. Well I didn't think it was to do with the game as it happens with any game. I was leaning towards it being something to do with the power supply more and more.

One thing though. Soilder of Fortune is a much more graphic intense game then starcraft and yet it still crashes playing starcraft. So i was curious if it would be heat or the power supply.

Further help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dayton

Well I'm back. I've probably determined the issue to be heat as I found the following information from a EVEREST test.

Sensor Properties:
Sensor Type ITE IT8705F (ISA 290h)
Motherboard Name ECS K7S5A

Temperatures:
Motherboard 33 °C (91 °F)
CPU 82 °C (180 °F)

Cooling Fans:
CPU 4018 RPM

Voltage Values:
CPU Core 1.65 V
+2.5 V 2.46 V
+3.3 V 3.31 V
+5 V 4.76 V
+12 V 11.90 V
+3.3 V Standby 3.47 V
+5 V Standby 5.11 V
VBAT Battery 3.47 V

I was curious if I would need a new power supply?

If its overheating thats causing your problem, why would you need to upgrade your power supply? You know how many watts it is?

If its your processor thats overheating you might want to invest in a better heatsink and fan. This can be picked up fairly cheap.

Wow... Your system is running really hot.

Your motherboard seems to be running at a good temperature, so I don't think that case ventilation is your issue; rather, there has to be a problem with the way your processor is having heat removed from it. There are many things that can cause this.

Did you install the heatsink on the processor yourself?
Is your heatsink stock (in other words, is it the heatsink that came with the processor)?
Has the heatsink ever been removed and reinstalled?
Does the heatsink need to be cleaned?

Please answer all these questions.

Thanks for the reply! I have actually got a friend to come over and look at the inside of my computer and preform surgery. LoL Well he cleaned up the inside and it was the fan on the heatsink that was the issue. He said the k7s5a motherboard has astonished him by still working and not burning out due to the temperature.

We have since replaced the fan on the heatsink and it works like a charm. No crashing and I'm finally able to play games! Woo Hoo. Thanks for all the help Dani Web. This was my first post in regards to this issue and through the countless hours i've spent reading through forums it's finished. In the future i'll come here for help once again as i've learnt so much.

Thanks again and I appreciate everyone's help.

Sincerly,

Dayton
