Good evening fellow techs,
Thank you for welcoming me into this prestigious forum.
I have an issue that by reading in this forum I can see a lot of people are having with Gateway Laptops. Mine is a MX6421.
Basically the laptop is dead, the power supply, DC power jack, and battery have been properly tested and confirmed to be working fine. I took the laptop apart and the motherboard itself has no visible signs of burnt/short circuited components. I even tried the 30 seconds power button trick and nothing.
After weeks of research on the internet to no avail, I finally decided to go to a computer repair shop. According to the tech there, he explained that this was a very common thing with Gateway laptops and that the solution was to bridge a capacitor somewhere in the motherboard near the DC power jack (and of course no specifics were given.) The gentlemen quoted me $165 for the repair, I thanked him for his time and walked out.
Interesting enough, I have read elsewhere about this "famous" bridging fix for Gateway laptops but no details are to be found.
So..., my question is: Does anyone have any detailed information on how to perform this fix?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
