Hi, I'm new to this site and joined to solve a problem I've been having. I recently built my own computer and I've got an A7V8X motherboard. It has a built in sound card, but its not 5.1 so I want to install a new sound card. I believe its a MadDog and it worked fine on a previous computer.

When I install the sound card in a PCI slot, the OS will not even start up and the computer restarts after 30 seconds or so. BIOs will come up, so I've tried several things. I've tried disabling the onboard AC'97 audio, but the same happened. I'm assuming that it either is a driver conflict or that the motherboard simply does not 'like' the new sound card. Attempts at uninstalling all sound drivers and reinstalling motherboard sound drivers have not solved the problem either. But like I said, once the sound card is physically installed, I have no access to anything except BIOs.

Is it possible for the sound card to simply not be compatible with my motherboard?

If anyone has any input that may solve my problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Shawn
