I have a DELL Latitude C600 Laptop with Windows ME OS. It used to have a 64mb memory card which was the standard for this model and I've always had problems with it hanging and crashing whenever it felt like it - but I am a patient kind of guy (and poor). I have the original 6GB hard drive with about 700Mb spare memory on it. It has a Pentium III 750Mhz processor (which runs at 600Mhz when on battery power).

The problem I have had for some time is that the laptop will not start when it is connected to mains power. It just powers off at random points in the start up procedure. Sometimes it lets me start using programs e.g. IE Explorer and then just crashes. Other times, it doesn't even finish loading Windows. If I start it on battery power it starts every time and then I plug in the mains power after the desktop has loaded and everything is fine. It has still very occasionally been crashing (don't they all?) and was hanging alot if I had too many programs open, so I upgraded the memory to 256Mb hoping this would solve my problems. But it didn't. It doesn't hang anymore and its noticeably faster but it still crashes on start up with power. I recently also fitted a new fan but that didn't make any difference.

Has anyone out there got any ideas?
