hello,

I read all the applicable threads for my question but I can't seem to solve it.

My old drive is SATA from which my PC boots. I installed a new 80gb IDE drive and my troubles began.

1) I have Separate ribbon cables for IDE drive and DVD-ROM. At first, it boots from my IDE (I installed Windows on it) and SATA drive does not appear. But DVDROM appears.

SO....

2) After much tinkering (no jumper switching involved), it boots from my IDE AND recognizes my SATA drive, but the DVD-ROM suddenly disappeared!

AND THEN....

3) I used only 1 IDE cable for my IDE drive and DVD-ROM. Now, my DVD-ROM appeared but my machine has switched back to booting from my SATA and now does not see any IDE hard drive installed.

My BIOS has no PATA/SATA options. Booting priority only has 3 options.

My motherboard is an ASUS P48x.

any ideas appreciated.

thanks much.
