Part 1. I have a 100 GB Western Digital Caviar EIDE Drive that has and extended partition with 10 logical volumes (D through M). The L partition has a permanent error. Reformatting that volume only, does not help. I want to find good cheap software that will allow me to reinitiate/low-level-format this drive and map the error/errors so that I can re-partition and reformat this drive, and it will be clean.

Can you recommend good cheap fix-it software?

Part 2. As an alternative, can anyone tell me, if re-paratitioning D-K (that is, all before the bad "L" partition), using Partition Magic, will cause the "L" partition to move, to where it might no longer contain the error sector/s. I would like to build a single partition for all before "L" and format it to use for holding image backups files, but I am afraid that it might cause the error sector/s to show up somewhere else. At least now I can still use all of the partitions execept the "L" partition and know that there will be do disk errors.

Any valid ideas will be appreciated.
