Ok, I was able to delete kmvkkr in safe mode but it's back on the HJT log now.

Try this again:

Open hijackthis and go to Misc Tools

Click on the Delete a file on reboot... button and paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\kmvkkr.exe into the line.

When asked to reboot, do so... hopefully it will work this time.

(You appear to be the only person that has this kmvkkr problem; if you do a google search for it, your posts are the only things that come up! Don't you feel special?)

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Hey Crunchie! Welcome back! We've missed you!!

Thanks for picking this up, it's been rather frustrating. Is l2m the same as Look2Me? I suspected this before but didn't know how to go about fixing it, so I'll be paying attention here :)

I think I should have read more of the thread. Didn't realise that the VX2Fix had been run.
Try this instead natenatmom.

Please go here and download Find_qoologic.zip by baskar1234. Unzip the folder and go to the new qoologic folder and doubleclick on qoologic.bat to run it. It will take a few minutes to scan your drive so be patient. When it has finished, open My Computer, doubleclick on C: and copy and paste the contents of the below logs in this thread.

C:\log.txt
C:\win.txt
C:\start.txt

Go here and download FindIt.zip to your Desktop, unzip it and open the FindIt folder and doubleclick on find.bat. Let it run (please be patient, it will take a few minutes) and when it has finished gathering info, it will generate a file called Output.txt. Please copy it and paste it back in this thread.

(Hope my links still work :)).

Thanks Danny :), good to be back.

Crunchie, L2MFIX has been run, with DMR's guidance, but I don't think VX2Fix has been yet.

Oh yes, I feel very special to be the only one with this problem! lol Here's the log.txt file...

C:\WINDOWS\system32

There is no win.txt or start.txt. I'll try findit now.

Here's the output...

Find.bat is running from: C:\Documents and Settings\Janet\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\LMZ31TF1\Find%20It%20NT-2K-XP[1]\Find It NT-2K-XP

Download the Pocket KillBox
Unzip the file to your desktop.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows and hit the "Fix checked" button.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kmvkkr.exe

Run Pocket Killbox and paste the full file path of each of the below files in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you enter each file (see the files below).

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kmvkkr.exe

Reboot afterwards if the files are successfully deleted.

If all files are not deleted, do not reboot yet. Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path in the box and click on Delete on Reboot. Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?" Click "Yes" to reboot only after the last file you enter.

Once rebooted, rescan with hijackthis and post that log please.

Go here and download and run Silent Runners.vbs. It generates a log, please post the information back in this thread.

Here the HJT log after running Killbox. I did notice that Killbox said it would delete and backup the file. Do we want it to be backed up? I'll do Silent Runners now.

Looks like the file may still be there. The backup that killbox creates can be found in a folder called 'isubmit' on your 'C' drive.

Please go here and have this file scanned.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mrbmmcm.exe

Post back the result please.

I was doing good for a few days with no popups or problems. Now they're all back and that stupid cashdog icon is back on the task bar. ABetterInternet just tried to access the internet too but I blocked it. Well here are the results of that scan...

Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.

Reboot in Safe mode.

Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt in your next reply.

C:\log.txt

C:\start.txt

Another findit log too please.

Crunchie will probably have some more ideas, but in the meantime you may wish to try CounterSpy; I've found it to find things most others can't and you can get it from here:

http://www.download.com/3000-8022_4-10337358.html

It has a 15-day free trial which will be plenty of time to get your system cleaned up, or you can purchase it for $20 (US). After you download it, install it; when asked for a registration number, just click next.

Before scanning the first time, make the following adjustments to the settings:

CounterSpy Settings

At the very top, click on File, and then Check for updates
When it’s finished updating, click the ‘Close’ button

Under ‘Spyware Scan’ on the left, click on ‘Run a spyware scan’
In the left pane, click on ‘Scan Options’
Mark ‘Full system scan’
Check all boxes under ‘Full system scan,’ including ‘Save these options’
In the right pane, near the bottom, click ‘Manage Schedule’
On the left side, select your preferred schedule options
On the right side, under ‘Scheduled Scan Options,’ check:
‘Always run a deep scan’
‘Automatically remove spyware cookies’
Click the ‘Update Schedule’ button

At the top, click on ‘System Tools’
Double-click on ‘History Cleaner’
Check the following options (if they are not grayed-out):
‘Internet Explorer History’
‘Internet Explorer Cookies’
‘Kazaa’
‘Temporary Internet Files’
Review the list for any other ‘History’ items you wish to clean
At the bottom, click ‘Remember checked’
Click on the ‘Clean History’ button
Click the ‘Yes’ button, and then the ‘OK’ button

Click ‘Back’ at the top
Double-click ‘My PC Checkup’
Click the ‘Start’ button
In the first part of the list, uncheck everything up to any ActiveX entries; the entries you uncheck can be checked later, individually, to ensure they won’t interfere with your browsing habits (for maximum protection, however, you may leave them all checked)
Leave all ActiveX entries checked
In the second part of the list ‘(Items already changed below…),’ leave all entries checked
Click the ‘Continue’ button
Click the ‘OK’ button

At the top, click ‘Spyware Scan’
On the right side, click the ‘Scan Now’ button
This will take awhile depending on the size of your drive(s), number of files, CPU, etc. (40 minutes on my computer)
When the scan is complete, use the drop-down arrow next to each entry and select ‘Remove’ (if you see any entries that you think you may wish to keep, ‘Ignore’ them for now and post them for recommendations)
Select ‘Create restore point’ if you want CounterSpy to create a Windows XP System Restore point
At the bottom, click ‘Take Action’
Click the ‘Close’ button and exit the program

If you decide to try it, let us know the results. And, whether you try it or not, please post a new HJT log.

Guess Crunchie beat me to it :)

Sorry Danny :D. You can take over a while if you wish. I am off to bed now and will not be able to get back on until tomorrow arvo.

Your latest HJT log looks much better. :)

Crunchie is offline right now, but he should be back in a few hours.
Since he's got this ball rolling in a certain direction, I'll let him finish rather than suggesting anything myself for the moment.

natenatmom,

As DMR said, that log logs much better :D. So much better I would say it is clean.

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the setup instructions.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others. Go here

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

This one too if Win2K or XP.
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

===============

If you're having any more problems, post back.

Happy surfing,

crunchie.

Also:

Install preventative utilities such as SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (links are in my sig below), especially if you absolutely have to continue using Internet Exploder. These utilities "harden" areas of your system known to be vulnerable to malicious attacks.
