Go to Start>Control Panel

Look in Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it there.

If it's not there, reboot to Safe Mode and delete the following folder

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus 3!

Messenger Plus 3! was not in the list of Add/Remove Programs, so I went into Safe Mode to look for the folder and it was not there. I did find a Messenger Plus 2! folder which had only one .dll file in it, so I deleted that. Here's the new HJT log:

Scan with HijackThis and check the following

For the Windows update, you just need to go to www.windowsupdate.com and let it search for updates...you will have to get Service Pack 1a before you get 2, but it will do it for you in the correct order - just allow it to install updates.

Also - make sure you have Automatic Updates enabled.
-Right click My Computer and choose Properties
-Choose Automatic Updates tab
-Check Turn On and Apply

I visited Windows Update and it said I needed to be in IE5, and I know I have IE5 so I went there in that browser and got a "Page cannot be displayed" error. So I went back and tried it in Netscape and followed the directions for doing automatic updates, then I clicked on "if you are using a different browser, click here" or something, and got to their update page and did a search for Service Pack 2 and I only found one that actually said "Service Pack 2," which had this underneath it:

I just don't get this at all and am getting really frustrated. I was just on Windows Update and it linked me there! I'm only using one computer. Is the above what I want? I can't find anything else except for an upgrade for Service Pack 2, which I don't have yet, and can't find! Rrrgh! :mad:

Did you set it up to do Automatic Updates? If so a blue globe will appear in the system tray (bottom right) and tell you that there are updates ready to be downloaded. Click there and allow them to install.

If you need a different version of Internet Explorer, it will download that as well.

I just checked, and I don't see a blue globe. I'll try restarting the computer.

EDIT: Restarted, and still no blue globe. However, I did click on "Windows Update" in my Control Panel under Performance and Maintenance, and finally got to the website I wanted and downloaded the upgrade there. And it said I have automatic upgrades turned on, too.

Ok - the globe should appear periodically, make sure you have them set for Automatic and it will install them for you at the time set under Automatic Updates

Okay, I think I got it fixed; however, if I need to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete to exit a window or whatever that won't close, I get a message saying "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator." I'm assuming that I'm the one that disabled it; how do I get it back?

Hi -

I was infected with this nonsense, it came from something called mousepad4.exe and drsmartload.exe. I found some info on taskdir.exe here: http://virusinfo.prevx.com/pxparall.asp?PXC=43ad13658556

The product seemed to clean the mess up an also removed the infected popup.

Has anyone used this before?
