I'm trying to setup diskless Windows XP for some workstations. I'm following this guide based on Win98: http://silent.gumph.org/content/4/7/071-diskless-windows-pxe.html

I'm using Ubuntu 10 in a virtual machine as my PXElinux server. I've tested network boots with a laptop, and other virtual machines.

When trying to boot a windows boot floppy at the end of the first page, each computer freezes after loading the image. I tried using a virtual machine as well to boot off the image and it said the cpu has stopped working.

Any event, I copied memdisk and pxelinux.0 as instructed but from /usr/lib/syslinux and not a tarball download (dont think this should matter, but maybe it does).

I also have no idea how to approach making an XP image either. I tried what it suggested on page 3 using dd of a windows install, but the file is mostly machine code with a few english words: invalid partition table.

If anyone with experience in this can point me in the right direction, would be fantastic
