:rolleyes: Hi all, I have a problem I hope some1 can help me with. I have a used Gateway Essential 933 low-profile w/20 gig P3. When I got it, it had Win ME. It was freezing....cursor would stop, keyboard wouldn't work, just a total freeze-up. I reformatted and installed Win XP Pro...Same problem! I ordered a new power supply because the fan is pre-installed, thinking I had a cooling problem. So I remove the heatsink, clean it well, reinstall with Arctic Silver Ceramique thermal compund. Installed the power supply, found that the old fan worked fine so I added it before the heatsink and the new fan blows the same direction on the other side of the heatsink. SAME PROBLEM!! I have checked for updates on all hardware, Windows updates, Gateway updates and have even turned off all services not needed. Now it runs a little longer b4 freezing up, but it's aggrevating. I installed a network card today, which was hard to find with a short bracket, and the internet is working fine...until it freezes. I have McAfee firewall installed and updated, Norton Systemworks/Anti-virus is updated, I downloaded SpyBot S&D, AdAware, SwShredder. None of them report spyware, trojans, worms, or viruses. I'm stumped....any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!! :-|
