Hi all, Just stumbled onto your web site looking for a replacement monitor for the old //gs. I've been around since the late 70's and started with the Apple][. Then went through the //e, the //c, and finally the //gs. The gs is fully loaded like I see many of you have done. One of my big hardware enhancements is a Transwarp GS which kicks up …
Anyone know of a good tutorial for the GS-DOS embedded operating system?

I'm trying to figure out how to work with an operating system called GS-DOS. (Full name appears to be 'General Software Embedded[v2]'). It is being used in a handheld barcode scanner I have been asked to work with, in the hopes that I can figure out how to program it. I have no real experience with any DOS platform, but I have noticed that not …

Hey guys, I've been struggling with a recent video card issue which causes my new video card (256MB Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS) to flicker several times per hour no matter what I'm doing (flickers last about 1 second and it doesn't seem to hinder processing or game-play). I would greatly appreciate any ideas you may have on the problem. [B]Specs:[/…

I, too, have a ][GS laying around...full loaded with memory, floppy drives, expansion cards, etc...I have to agree that these machines are not going to peek in value any time soon...the only ones I can see having much value are those signed by Woz himself...they do hold the distinction of being the first Apple computer to sport a GUI, albiet a …

Hey all. This is a nice forum. I've had countless computer questions over the years go unanswered....it can be just plain taxing and time consuming to really get adept if you work away from one most of the time, like me. Anyway... As the Apple || came to it's final days (prompting Steve Wozniak to leave the company), the IIGS hinted at a world of …

The reason I bring up the ][GS (Graphics & Sound, if anyone forgot) is it seems to have led a very short existance, as I recall 1990/1991 the II series was laid to rest with little fanfare, I had been searching library material for anything of substance back then. I'd used my Apple all through the 1980s, mainly for games...of course, but it was…

Hi all, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS and it has worked brilliantly for 2 years. I recently had to re-format my PC. I went to install the drivers for the card and it worked fine. However when I rebooted my computer the drivers appear to have been uninstalled and no longer work. Any input will be much appreciated

Well, usually if you're gonna upgrade your system, you need to take in consideration the power the pc is currently using. When upgraded, the power supply must support the new hardware, so lets say your pc ran smoothly at 480, quoted from Nvidia "GeForce 8400 GS cards have a maximum power draw of 71 watts" so now you have to consider, if …

Newer + more RAM == better. Go to the nVidia web site and their specs on all their boards will help you determine which is best/better for you. In any case, a GS 7600 is likely much better than a GT6600 as it has a lot more memory. I have a 3+ year old 8800GT board, and until you get to very expensive high end boards, it is as good as any newer …

Thanks for the quick response Rik, a very good idea. I'm sorry it took me so long to reply. After close inspection with a magnifying glass and a small flashlight, I wasn't able to find any obvious damage to any of the capacitors or ICs. You have a CRT monitor? If so it could be the monitor which is giving up (which happened in my case), else its definitely a capacitor in the card which could be damaged, and might thus need to replace the card itself, or you could just try move slightly the capacitors, which should remain fix to the card unless one has been overheating and got …

You're using a 16-bit assembler, and those registers are only accessible from 32-bit programs.

I, too, have a IIGS neatly packed away in my closet. It's in near-mint condition, perfectly functional, and has all of its programs to boot. Unfortunately, I don't think it's worth much value right now. Being from the 80s, lots of people still have them buried away somewhere with their other old PCs, just like I do. In addition, we all remember …
