Turns out previous owners had a power on schedule configured, and the management controller retained the old config even though I put a fresh OS on it. Doh! Live and learn. I've never found the need for any security software other than what comes with Windows. Then I repartition to C/D, move my user folders (documents, pictures, etc.) to D. Then I take another image. After that I begin installing my base apps before imaging one more time.
