How long would you think a
refurbished
unit last before it breaks down? And if DELL was so bad, how come they're pretty expensive for their products? I'd just like to know more on refurb'd units because if they are pretty reliable, then I would deffinitely go for them.

I'll have to agree with Bobbyraw, besides unless you run something like SeaTools on the drives you'll have no idea how much use it has had etc. You're better of just getting a new drive matey, and leave referbs alone. You should try to avoid them like the plague, you've little idea of the history - was the previous owner careful and looked after…

Thanks guys. In an almost eerie reinforcement to your advice, I looked at prices and remembered the old saying, "You get what you pay for" right as my browser was redirecting here...but anyway, it's a great laptop when it works, and I would love to get it working, so any suggestions on brands that have the better success rates on a 2.5&…

Dells arent bad, they just suck if you want to upgrade For home users and businesses (thier primary target) they are good but for gamers and power users, dells suck. Take it from a dell owner. seeing as you want "Intel Quad Core processor, 3GB ram, 300+GB hard drive" it is assumed you are one of the above users. Best way is frankly to …

Hi, I've been trying to get my daughters Portege screen replaced, not as easy as it sounds apparently. The original model and serial have been removed from the bottom and that's what I need to confirm the screen. I've submitted it to a local repairer who tried half a dozen screens without success. Does anybody know how I can track down the Chinese …

Connect an external display and go into the BIOS setup. You might find the information you need there.

I've purchased refurbs from Dell in the past and had no problems with them. You might want to check what is available on their web site. They come with factory warranty and support, or at least they used to.

Whatever you buy, if it comes with a warranty from a known provider (e.g. Dell, Best Buy) then you can buy with confidence. Even a 90 day Warranty is better than a blind purchase from ebay. What kind of specs can you get with $300?

Don't bother with the expense of building your own gear. Rent time on a large Amazon cloud system to do the analysis. When you are don't, you shut it down and aren't being charged for resources you don't need. If this is an occasional need, then it can be a LOT cheaper than building your own gear! Example, an m2.4xlarge image costs about $1.35USD /…

Hi rubberman! Thanks for your thoughts! I have actually identified a number of systems -- gaming machines, mostly -- on Amazon or Newegg that meet all my requirements in the $1300 range. And I have found a few that almost meet them in the $7-800 range. Plus my current computer is six years old, and it is time to replace it. The question is, can I …

"
Refurbished
" is a crap shoot. I've had good luck where they last as long as a new machine and one that died after a few months. As a general rule the warranty is 90 days so consider a new machine with less than "decent" specs as well.

Ok, because I was going to say that it compiles with no problems so I wasn't sure. By that I mean having the: public String toString() { return "The Colors: " + Color + "\n" + "The weight: " + Weight + "\n" + "boolean: " +
