We bought this system from SNIP about 2 years ago. It's amazing we use it for our home security. We have it linked to both our laptops so we can keep an eye on things while we work away, And it's very discreet so it makes a great nanny cam aswell. Great buy, I would recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their home security system.

Yeah, this isn't true. But installing 1 version of OS X on multiple computers isn't legal. It's a violation of the End User License Agreement (which you implicitly agree to when you install OS X).

If the government is scanning social media for evidence of illegal activity, I have no problem with that. If the government is scanning social media to identify dissenting opinion with the purpose of eventually suppressing the opinions, then I have a problem with it.

i think that is scary knowing that the government is scanning and getting information for social media. its scary because if the government can do that it means that they can easily do what they want when they want to you.

Personally, I think that as more people here about govt scanning of social media and e-mails there may be a move towards written letters and the USPS again, where widescale tampering/monitoring would require more human resources than electronic ones. A possible return to penmenship classes in our schools?

Well the issue with the wired dropping. Could be a bad cable, could be a bad network port on the router or the computer. Or could be the whole router itself. Any event if wireless is what you want: easiest way to get wireless is with a USB wireless dongle. You can get wireless G capable ones for about $30 I think. Or you can get a wirless pci or …

is the router left on always? could be hot and thus problematic. as posted by pc hater, running only the desktop on the router and see if the dropout continues. look into the ports at the router and pc, are they dusty or green? the cable itself? it is rare for a piece of wire to break, but you could try a different cable. the …

Hello, I'm not an expert in this field, but, I'm sure you can stream the security camera to a web-server. I don't really /think/ this can be done in PHP and therefore PHP only handles which camera is shown, for example switch between HOUSE 1 and HOUSE 2 and also who can access this particular camera. Showing the cameras might have to be done …

I'm assuming this is similar to a live streaming video setup, but I've no experience with zoneminder. You probably need a server set up for such functionality and something like FLash/Flex or Silverlight. I don't think an ajax/PHP setup will suffice. Anybody else?

@diafol I'm with you, however, I do think PHP does have a function here.. If anything, it could be used for displaying the appropriate cam, for example.. www.site.com/viewcam.php?id={id}.

@phorce - yes I agree, a server-side technology is required to add certain functionality - however, that may be possible through Flash/Silverlight or even an object/iframe for a ready-made solution. A java applet may even be better. But this is beyond my experience of such things. Hopefully somebody can shine a light on this. Interesting question +…
