i'm trying a slackware version of linux (2.6.x kernal) and everytime i bring up mozilla firefox i get the error page and at the bottom right where the load bar is, it says Tor disabled. i'm new to linux and clueless as to what to do so any suggestions would help.

Can you ping a website? ( ping www.google.com )

Tor is a proxy service?

Type ifconfig in a console and tell us what it says

when i typed in ip config it said object not found

whoops you said if not ip...i guess that would explain it

so when i typed in if config i got:

Link encap:local loopback
inet addr:127.x.x.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
inet6 addr: ::1/128 scope:host
UP LOOP BACK RUNNING MTU:16436 metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collosions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:0 (0.0b) TX bytes:0 (0.0b)

What does ifconfig eth0 display?

Do you have an obscure NIC or are using wireless? Sounds like your card isnt detected?

Well it could be because ifconfig on my box doesn't return all my network interfaces...

i'm usin th onboard ethernet port, i know it works becuase i'm running xp on it too. i'm using vmware for linux

Try installing the Vmware drivers for linux
