This is my first time to post here so please bear with me.I use netzero as my dial-up ISP and here is the problem I am having. (I am using Windows XP Pro)
When I click on the NetZero Desktop Icon the connect screen will come up but, before I can click "connect" a task will show in the task bar that says Network Connections and the number 2222 will be dialed. The only way I can connect to the ISP is to go into Start- Settings- Network Connections and
delete the NetZeo Dial-up, then click Connect and it will connect to the ISP without problems. The next time I get ready to connect to the ISP I have to do the same thing again.
I have ran Ad-Aware, SpyBot, PCBug Doctor, Spyware Killer, to make shure I have no spyware.
I also tried to disable software supression like the MS help file said to do but when I click on network Connections I do not have a Heading called Network Task where I can disable software suppression.
Another thing occasionaly I will get a window saying that I or a program has requested info from CNN.com.
If someone could tell me what to do I shure will try it. I do not want to have to format the drive and start all over.

Thanks In advance,
Katman
I am not always at the PC so will try what is recommended and post results.

Thanks caperjack I got the log you wanted and will try to post it here..will check for your reply.

First of all we have to remove Newdotnet, either from add/remove programs, or by going here and scrolling down to the uninstall tool.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Download, install and keep updated, Spywareblaster from www.javacoolsoftware.com to help keep your system clean.

Reboot and post another log please.

crunchie:
I appreciate the help and did all the things you said, then re-booted and ran hackthis to verify that all those entries were gone and they were but, this has not cured my problem. I still have the same problem when trying to log onto the NetZero ISP. If you have other suggestions I will be happy to try them. Thanks again..
Katman

in stead of using the netzero icon ,try setting internet explorer to auto dial when you click on it !
open IE,go to tools/internet options/connections ,and check off always dial my default connection . close IE then open it again .
If you already have it set like that ,then i din't know what else to say except maybe uninstall netzero software and reinstall

You could also try deleting the netzero icon then create a new one.

caperjack, crunchie and anyone else that was involved ...
Thanks for the help guys here is what I did after caperjack and crunchie last post..
1. Deleted NetZero from computer and re-booted
2. Re-install NetZero.....no help
3.Deleted NetZero again
4. Deleted Netzero in network Connections
5. Powered down computer for approximately 20 minutes.
6. Loaded older version of NetZero program from floppy disc.
Did this on 1/22/05 and still ok today.
Shure hope that it will stay this way.
Again thanks to all

Your welcome .good to hear you got it working again !

To remove this 2222 thingy go to Network Places or Network Connections, or My Network (or whatever your network is labeled with) Properties. Find that Netzero connection and open it's properties (mouse right click). In the opened window you'll see that 2222 in place of the phone number. Just remove it and click OK.
