I've been struggling with trying to remove a browser hijack from my system. There were 4 user accounts set up within Windows XP. I would seem to clear the problem under one account, but when I would go to another to check on it, the problem would reappear.
I finally deleted all other accounts except for mine and ran Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware 6 and SpyBot S&D. It appears again to have cleaned it up. To be certain, I ran Hijack This. I am posting the log from Hijack in the hopes that someone can peruse it and determine if I did indeed clean everything up.
I am getting a RUNDLL error when I logon to Windows: "Error loading C:\Windows\image.dll". This error message appears twice in a row. I click OK and everything seems to be running OK. Can anyone tell what is trying to run the image.dll? Is it a leftover from an adware?
Thanks in advance.

The only thing you can dump for sure:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.intellicast.com/Local/US...v=none&pid=none

This line is related to the image.dll problem:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Image] rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\image.dll,Install

You shouldn't have a problem deleting this.

Review the things below. I'm not sure if they are legit (programs you own), or if they are spyware/adware:

C:\Program Files\Netropa\OSD.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCDRealtime] C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

Reboot and delete following files .

C:\WINDOWS\image.dll---delete file only

C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe---delete file only .

to delete the above files and folder you will need to do the following
go to

Show hidden files &

folders

"Fix Checked"...Reboot to SAFE mode to delete files

How to start computer in safe mode

reboot computer and post a new log

reboot and post new log

Also you didn't need to delete the other users as hijackthis fixes are good for all useres .!

Thanks. I deleted what you recommended (except for the intellicast start page - that's what I wanted) and it looks clean to me. I did not find the image.dll file to delete, but that is why I was probably getting the error message. I did have to go into the registry and do a search for another image.dll since the Hijack This fix only cleared up one of the two error messages I was getting. But I found it squirreled away and deleted it. No more errors. Here is the latest log. Thanks a bunch.

Hi jfxcoll,
There may be some other things to be removed/fixed in your log. Can you start a new topic and post your latest HijackThis log?

I think it is time to start focusing on the people that are causing the problem...
what makes peole think I will send them money to fiz a problem they created?

Hi jfxcoll,

swatkat is right about the need for you to post your question/problem in a new topic of its own.

As stated in our Forum Rules, we do ask that members not tag their questions on to a thread previously started by another member (regardless of how similar your problem might seem). Not only does it divert the focus of the thread away from the original poster's problem, but it also makes it less likely that you yourself will get the individual attention that you need.

Please start your own thread and post your question there. When you do, please try to give us as much specific info as possible regarding the problem (exact error messages, system specs, etc.).

For a full description of our posting guidelines and general rules of conduct, please see this page:

http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/faq.php?faq=daniweb_faq#faq_rules

Thanks for understanding.

Due to the fact that the member who originally started this thread has not responded in over one year, this thread is considered abandoned and has been closed.

In accordance with our posting rules, other members having similar problems should start their own threads and post their questions there. In order to help us help you most quickly, please include as much information about your problem as possible in your posts.

If the member who originally started this thread wishes to have the thread reopened, please send your request, including a link to this thread, to one of our moderators via email or Private Message.

Thank you.
