Registry corruption sucks. When you boot up trying the F8 option, choose "Last Known Good Configuration." See what that does.

Far, far, far, far, far too long every day. I leave here (work) to go home and play games, surf more, download gigs upon gigs of stuff, then sleep only to repeat the cycle.

So you're running a normal OS, and VM'ing two other ones at the same time? That's putting some pressure on your hardware for sure.

You'll need a network bootable disk with smartdrv on it. Boot, map a network drive to a share containing the installation files, execute "smartdrv", change directory to i386, then "winnt". That's the basic rundown. If you're unfamiliar with DOS commands, it can be very confusing at first, but I can …
Hmmm... take this suggestion only as a suggestion. I'm sure that someone else will be able to respond in more detail. I have no idea why you're running into this problem, but whenever I've needed to reformat (I used to do it quite a bit) I would use Linux. Again, …

Yes, 11Mbps. You answered your own question. To reuse an old adage, "A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link."

My first box was an Acer. My sister owns one as well, for whatever reason. I haven't really heard anything bad about the Travelmates, but you may want to price out a comparable system with HP or Dell. Just go to their websites and use their online configuration tools, or …
Ive been looking at other threads in this forum and there are discussions of kernels. I don't know anything about this, what are these?
They don't apply to you. Try an older version of the Detonator drivers. 31.08 sticks out for some reason, or maybe it's 41.09.

I wouldn't be male if I didn't enjoy talking about cars. Computers, mainly networking and system tweaking. And while there is always something to improve upon with a system, you can be entirely too anal about some things. Example: memory timings, temperatures, and raw speed in general.

You could number the tracks with leading zeros, but that would be too much of a pain. And yes, it's a limitation of the filesystem (CDFS ?).

What happened was that XP setup wrote a new boot sector, pretty much erasing any existence of a plain vanilla 98 installation. You can't really do anything about it other than format and start over, along with an fdisk /mbr before you reinstall 98.
