 WHY AM I GETTING A DNS ERROR for shdoclc.dll file????

I have tried all possible solutions to this problem, but I just can't seem to fix it. I am running Windows XP w/ sp2 and IE6. I have had this problem since May of this year. I cannot connect to about 75% of all secure sites I used to visit before. I cannot even use Windows Update. It says there is an error. I tried to visit Microsoft for a solution, but take a guess......I couldn't sign in to send them an e-mail. It just seems as though this comp doesn't want to be fixed. I even ditched Windows and reinstalled it hoping that would fix the problem..but it is still here. I have disabled all firewall, I have ran spyware software, I have cleared cache, temp if, cookies. Please tell me what I can do to fix this problem!!??!!

Download & instal Adaware from here
& update it before scanning.
In settings under 'scanning,' have it set to
'scan within archives,'
'scan active processes,'
'scan registry,'
'deepscan registry'
'scan my IE Favourites for banned URL's,'
'scan my host's file.'
In 'tweaks' under 'scanning engine' set it to 'unload recognised processes during scanning.'
Also in 'tweaks' under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Always try to unload Modules before deletion' & 'let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.'
Select 'activate in-depth scan' before starting scan.
When the scan is finished select 'next.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object. Reboot

Download & instal Spybot S&D from here. Update it before scanning.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. This program will prevent the install of bad activex controls that it has knowledge of. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it. Reboot

Download HijackThis from here & unzip it into it's own, permanent folder, (Not a temporary folder or the desktop (in a folder on the desktop is fine) & not directly on your hard drive). If you prefer an executable file, then download from here.
If you have anything disabled in MsConfig, please re-enable it/them.
Start HJT & with all browser windows closed, press the scan button. When the scan is finished the scan button will change to save. Save the log to a text file, copy the entire contents of the text file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

Here is the log file in text format. What next? :?:

Open Task Manager & end process on the following:
YEDIEx.exe

Then go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 & delete the file.

Remove any of the 015 entries that you never set. Also, try putting the sites you cannot connect to into the trusted zone.

I still cannot connect to any of the sites in the 015 entries, plus many others. Here is my latest log file:

I don't see anything in your log, but I'm not an expert on HJT's. Maybe someone else can find something there.

However, I see you have Updated to SP2, were you having this problem before that? If it's related to SP2, this update may help:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?amp;displaylang=en&familyid=17D997D2-5034-4BBB-B74D-AD8430A1F7C8&displaylang=en

Are you using a router or other device that may have a firewall built-in?

Nope, I have been having this problem WAY before I even knew about SP2. I had to order the SP2 CD just to get it.....THIS SUCKS! I am on regular dial-up and all firewalls are disabled.

I had similar problem. I also tried to scan using adware, etc. When I checked in event viewer, I saw an error msg under system msgs saying "A fatal error occurred when attempting to access the SSL client credential private key. The error code returned from the cryptographic module is 0x80090016.". All I did was to reinstall my certificate. Voila, things were fine then!!! But my case was the server issued a certificate which I was using and one fine day it stopped working.

I had that exact problem with Paypal. There is a way to fix it. It's called PageFix and it's free to try software from fixIEonline.com. Give it a shot, it worked for me. PageFix

I had a similar problem. It was driving me nuts. Would you believe that the problem was that my clock was set to four years ago.

Simply changing it to the correct date sorted out all the problems.

Hope this helps someone!
