My internet browser is opening itself to a web sit called www .webthangs.com. This virus seemed to attack my default browser either firefox or IE. I have scanned my entire computer with many spywares and AVG, and none of them was able to find the virus. Apparently, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware was able to find the virus as trojan.BHO. However, it was not able to remove it. It kept saying remove upon reboot, but the problem is still there. I even tried my ISP's antivirus, Shaw Security to get rid of this, but was not successful.

It is strange that it could not find the virus any more because I didn't do anything at all. I installed my ISP's security package. I scanned my computer, but it couldn't find anything so I never deleted anything. However, I know the virus is still there because my browser is still affected.

Below is the old logfile that I scanned with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

Thank you.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from
HERE
or
HERE

  • You must download it to and run it from
    your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs
    (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere
    with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that
    log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during
    the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is
running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection
is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into
difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be
manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!

Combofix was run 3 times, not once as requested. I need to see the logs from the first two scans. They can be found in C:\Qoobox

Hi,
I was not able to find those files you asked.
I had downloaded ComboFix and ran it before, then I deleted it. However, whee I tried to download ComboFix again and ran it again, it was not working. So all I have is the file I had submitted earlier.
I hope that from all the files ( ComboFix and HiJackThis) you can see so far, maybe you can help me out. Thanks

Combofix should never just be deleted. It should be uninstalled as it makes changes to the way the operating system works!
This is the problem when ppl use tools without them being recommended to them :(.

I am at work at the moment and do not have things on hand that I need.
I will go through your logs when I return home in about 6 hours.

Do you know what this batch file is?
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cks.bat

==

  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
  • Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:
  • http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

==

Can you please do the following.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {A057A204-BACC-4D26-9990-79A187E2698E} - (no file)

O9 - Extra button: BitComet - {D18A0B52-D63C-4ed0-AFC6-C1E3DC1AF43A} - res://C:\Program Files\BitComet\tools\BitCometBHO_1.2.8.7.dll/206 (file missing)

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.
