I recently got the annoying virus/malware which causes your Google search results to redirect to some random other website. Many searches later and I landed on this fantastic site. I did all the stickied stuff at the top of this thread and appear to be pretty clean. (On a possibly related note, each time I run the Microsoft malicious software tool, my primary DNS is blanked out in the TCP/IP properties tab....I'm on a static IP, by the way. This the same bug?)

Anyways, here are the most recent log files I have for Malwarebytes, Hijack This! and the EOS online scan.

On top of these, this is the only infected file the malicious software tool finds when I run a full scan with it: Trojan: WinNT/Alureon.C

Hopefully all is well and I can sleep easy, but I came home from work and there were about 15 IE windows open with the same "advertisement." Can't remember what it was, but I essentially had to restart as my Avast! anti-virus had to close for some unspecified reason.

THANKS!

OK, overnight several more IE pop-ups during my full system Avast! scan wanting me to take the dumb test or get my teeth whitened. This tells me there is still something somewhere and I've just got to find it.

The regular Avast! scan uncovered two items. They are:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\LocalSettings\Application Data\websvr.exe infected by Win32: Trojan-gen (Other)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\LocalSettings\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE5\J8HAA5XR\websvr(1).exe infected by Win32: Trojan-gen (Other)

(Both were apparently successfully moved to the chest)

As I was typing this, another IE window popped-up. Please point me in the right direction for getting my sytem back to where it belongs!

Would going back to before I got the initial infection via System Restore work? I'm pretty sure I know exactly when I was first infected (4/8/09 at 6:48 a.m.)

THANKS AGAIN!

Would going back to before I got the initial infection via System Restore work? I'm pretty sure I know exactly when I was first infected (4/8/09 at 6:48 a.m.)

No it would not. System Restore is generally not considered for removal of items...especially infections.
Leave System Restore alone for the moment, once the computer is clean then a new and clean Restore point can be set but for now leave it running and as it is.
You are using an old version of HiJackThis. Uninstall that one and download the newest version from HERE
Run a new Full System Scan with it and post that new log.
Judy

Here's the updated HJT log...thanks!

So sorry I missed this last post. Can you please do the following:

Please Update MBA-M and select Perform full scan, then click Scan.

* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Reboot the computer.

Run a new HJT Full Scan and save the log.
Post back here with both of those logs.
Judy
