Hi Latinflo, welcome to DaniWeb :D

Download VX2Finder from here:
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder.exe

Open the program and click the Click to Find VX2.aBetterInternet button. This will attempt to find all VX2 related files and registry keys and when present display them in its logfile. To create a logfile, click the button named Make Log. This will open the logfile using Notepad. Post the results in your next reply.

Download these two tools:

Dllcompare -- http://www.downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe

KillBox -- http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.exe

Run Dllcompare, by clicking the Run Locate.com then click the Compare button. When done, post that log here along with the VX2Finder log -- do not reboot because all the filenames will change if you do.

Thanks for helping me out!! here are the logs you requested

You have a few things there that need removing...

===============

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

===============

Download CWShredder 2.14 from here. Run it and press the *fix,* not scan and allow it to clean the infection. Close all browser and explorer windows before hitting the fix button.

-

Download, unzip to your desktop About:Buster and run it, then:

1. Click "Update".
2. Click "Check For Update"

(If no new version is available, skip to step #4.)

3. Click "Download Update", and wait for it to be installed.
4. Click "Start".

(Wait for the initial ADS scan to complete.)

5. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE session currently open.

(Wait for the about:blank scan to complete.)

6. Click "Ok", to scan once more.
7. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE sessions currently open.
8. Click "Yes", to begin the second pass.

9. Click "Save log", and post this log back along with your new log.
10. Click "Exit".
11. Click "Exit".
12. "Reboot"..

===============

Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Hi csymo,

First of all- welcome to TechTalk!

We ask that members not tag their questions on to a thread previously started by another member (regardless of how similar your problem might seem). Not only does it divert the focus of the thread away from the original poster's problem, but it also makes it less likely that you yourself will get the individual attention that you need.

Please start your own thread and post your question there. When you do, please try to give us as much specific info as possible regarding the problem; in your particular case posting a HijackThis log would be advised.

For a full description of our posting guidelines and general rules of conduct, please see this page:

Thanks for understanding.

It looks like the R1's keep renaming itself. I did do the panda and it disinfected my virus but not my shareware? That is what it looked like. Anyway here is my latest Hijack. Again, thanks for all your help.

It looks like the R1's keep renaming itself.

You're exactly right- this infection (and others) can and does "morph" its filenames. This usually happens at reboot, so it's best not to reboot your computer during the disinfection process unless you're specifically instructed to do so.

1. Try this download link for about:buster.

2. Also download HSRemove.

3. Physically disconnect your Internet/network cable from your computer.

4. Run HSRemove, CWShredder, and About:Buster consecutively; have them fix whatever they find.

5. Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up)

- Run HSRemove, CWShredder, and About:Buster again.

- Run HijackThis again and have it fix the following entries (don't worry if the actual filenames in the entries have morphed again):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\ytjwq.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\ytjwq.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\ytjwq.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\ytjwq.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\ytjwq.dll/sp.html#37049
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\ytjwq.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Comcast
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Class - {6C3402C2-3A3A-A516-2790-602FF5091C3B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\apihs.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apihs.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\apihs.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [addor.exe] C:\WINDOWS\addor.exe
O23 - Service: Workstation NetLogon Service ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieia32.exe (file missing)

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

- Locate and delete the following files (if the filenames have morphed, delete whatever filenames appear in the R1, R0 entries of your log):
C:\WINDOWS\ytjwq.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apihs.dll

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (but not the folders themselves):

Important: One of the normal steps in eliminating malicious programs is to entirely delete the contents of all Temp folders. Given that, if any data that you care about is living in those Temp folders, you need to move it to a safe location now, or it will be erased along with everything else!

1. Cookies
2. Local Settings\Temp
3. Local Settings\History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder.

Note- If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed. Windows will allow you to delete the versions of those files which exist in sub-folders within the main Temp/Temorary folders, but might not let you delete the versions of those files that exist in the main Temp folders themselves; this is normal and OK.

- Empty your Recycle Bin and reboot normally.

6. Run HijackThis again and post a new log.

Here is the latest and greatest. I Think it looks pretty clean? When I open my
internet i didn't get the about:blank page, but i got 3 sex web sites in my favorites.

Download CWShredder 2.14 from here:
http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html
Run it, and press the Fix button (not scan). Close all windows before hitting the Fix button.

For every User listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (not the folders themselves):

Cookies
History
Local Settings\Temp
Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Temp folder (if you have one).

Do a search for *.tmp and delete all entries found.

Go to Start, Run, and type in cleanmgr, and then click OK. Select the drive XP is on, and check the boxes for Downloaded Program Files (move any files you wish to keep out of this folder first), Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin, Temporary Files, Temporary Offline Files, Offline Files, (and Compress old files & Catalog files for the Content Indexer if you wish), and then click OK. Click Yes to confirm you want these files deleted. It may take awhile for this to run, please be patient.

Note: if any of these temporary files cannot be deleted while in normal mode, try Safe Mode.

Empty your Recycle Bin, reboot, close any open browser windows, scan with hijackthis, and post a new log along with a fresh Ad-Aware log.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! I have been away on vacation, but since I have been back I have had no problems!!!!! Thanks for all your time helping me out.

Glad to hear everything is working as it should :)

However, you should post new hijackthis and Ad-Aware logs so we can verify your system is clean.
