Guys I wish I would have known of you a month ago! Apr 15 I contracted a very bad virus which I thought I'd gotten rid of until a week and a half ago when it seemed to reappear. Then I got it through an online radio station via MS media player and from then on everything associated with IE seemed to set it off so I deleted every file I found made on that day, after that I deleted IE and every other MS web type program/file. That seemed to solve the problem and since then I've only been online via Mozilla/Firefox. A few weeks ago I started getting IE script error dialog boxes (5 to 8 at a time) that would pop up constantly unless I left them open. Then shortly afterwards the other pop ups started again, mainly Aurora. I've got all the anti virus programs and everytime I run them they say I've got hits. Cleaning them out doesn't help. I was going to just solve it all and re-format my C drive today but ran across your site and thought I'd throw a pitch at you and see if you'd like to take a swing at my problem? Here's the Hijack script you seem to ask everyone for. Thanks

airgb,

Hello! and welcome to the Daniweb forums :). I will be deleting your other thread as it is a duplicate of this one.

--

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?download=20050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode.

--

Some of the following entries may not be there due to the running of the nail fix. Do not worry :).

-

There are a some item(s) i'm not familar with in your log and cannot get info on. If you recognise any, then just omit them from this fix.

===============

We'll need to unload Spybot's Teatimer before we begin. To do this, right-click on the icon in the quick launch toolbar at the bottom on the screen, then select "Exit".

===============

The version of Internet Explorer your currently using might be out of date, since there's no indication of a version in the header. Be sure to check for and upgrade to, the newest version as soon as possible, if necessary.

===============

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

===============

Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

OR

You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u systb.dll
regsvr32 /u stlb2.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

===============

Let's look for, and delete, any program segments(prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from this system. To do this, let's:

1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

winupdt.exe*
bwwnrcquk.exe*
msst.exe*
dkjgvvq.exe*
upsasptiqz.exe*

2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rrrlrp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\exp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\winupdt.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\msst\mssts.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\bwwnrcquk.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\msst\msst.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sfita.exe
c:\windows\system32\dkjgvvq.exe
C:\WINDOWS\upsasptiqz.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Still in HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
2) Next, "Enable all protection".
3) Exit the program.

-

Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Let me know how everything goes.

Thanks Crunchie for the reply and I apologize for the double post but was
getting worried that no one was going to get back to me. I've done most of
what you asked other than installing the www.trendmicro.com's "free online
scan". I have the file downloaded however when I try to install it I get a
"16 bit Windows Subsystem" dialog box. The box states "C:\Windows\System32\
Autoexec.int. The system file is not suitable for running MS Dos and MS
Windows applications. Choose close to terminate the application." Maybe related
I've had MS AntiSpyware on this computer for the last 3 to 4 weeks and could
scan with no problem however since this Aurora problem started that program
would freeze up. I uninstalled it (or thought I did) and then tried to
reinstall it however I now I also get a dialog box stating "MS
AntiSpyware Installer Information,Internal Error 2755.1631, C:\Windows\
downloaded\installations\{0F5BF410-4D790-4DBE-AF54-C3271D47D4B}\microsoft
antispyware.msi." It also now says it's installed on my C: drive however
when I try to delete it I get an Add or remove programs dialog box stating
"The windows installer service failed to start. Contact your support
personnel." Either way it's not effecting anything.

I'm now also getting quite a lot of Evindo "clean" alerts saying it will be done on
the next boot up, however even after that I'm still getting the same alerts.
The Aurora pop ups are gone however I'm still getting occasional dialog boxes
like "elitevmx32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." It then give the options of send error report or Don't
send.
Last note, again I do not have MSE on this system or any of MS's internet
programs. Back during the Apr 15 virus I got rid of "all" of those programs
thinking since that's where I got the virus from it would stop any future
infections since now I only use Mozzilla Firefox to go online with. Well I
guess that kind of logic is now unfounded huh? Anyway again thanks for
the help here (you guys do a great job) and here is my latest HijackThis report.

You still have a few things there that need removing...

-

We'll need to unload Spybot's Teatimer before we begin. To do this, right-click on the icon in the quick launch toolbar at the bottom on the screen, then select "Exit".

===============

Still in HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\winupdt.exe
C:\windows\system32\elitevmx32.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\dddu.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Let me know how everything goes.

-

If you are getting an error similar to: autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application...etc etc' or a 16 bit application error.
Go here and use the appropriate fix for your system;
http://www.tech-forums.net/computer/topic/29806.html
More info here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;324767

After this last fix I'm not getting the Ewindo alerts anymore however I am still getting the "elitevmx32.exe" dialog box which states "elitevmx32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. [Send Error Reprot], [Don't Send]." Also I noticed on the Fix Checked page of HjackThis after this last scan some of the files that you wanted me to check were still there. Is this ok or should I check them and run Fix Checked again? Here's the last report. Thanks once more.

If the 023 entry is still there, do the following before posting the log;

Start>>Run and type regedit
Press enter.
Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\System Startup Service (SvcProc)

If System Startup Service (SvcProc) exists , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

Now navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ System Startup Service (SvcProc)

If LEGACY_System Startup Service (SvcProc) exists then right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

elitevmx32.exe did exsist and since I've deleted it that seems to have solved the dialog box issue. However, 023 is still showing up in the log and when I went to registry edit (SvcProc) is not in either location you provided. I see also that the others are still showing up in the log too even after safe mode deletes, R0,R3,ect. I currently am not having any problems even though those files are still visible. Here is the lastest log.

Try repeating the previous steps, but this time disable all the real-time protection you have running. They will prevent these fixes from happening. Tea-timer, MS antispyware and Ewido. Make certain in task manager that these are no longer running before fixing with hijackthis.
