First, thanks in advance for any help. I've tried everything I know to do and it's just not good enough.

I have supoposedly cleaned this machine of Aurora, Nail, BookedSpace, AlwaysUpdateNews, MSW Seach, AdDestroyer, Transponder (Aurora, DrPMon and Bolger) as well as Navidad Worm Worm. Yet within moments of getting online to come here, I got several pop ups and Ewigo just alerted me to an attempt to install TrojanDropperAgent.pb.

I can't seem to clean this machine. I have run Ad Aware, Spybot S&D and Ewido before coming to your site. I also ran MS AntiSpyware and SpyDoctor in an attempt to get whatever it is off my system. I ran them while off-line, with my cable turned off. Even after getting a supposedly clean bill of health from the programs, while offline, Network Connection windows pop open telling me that a program is trying to access "icannnews.com" and "licenseverify.com"

I have SpywareGuard and SpyBlaster as well. And yet ... I obviously need help, please (big puppy dog eyes looking pathetically needy)

Here's the HighjackThis log from just before coming back online:

Hi jillcwood, welcome to DaniWeb :D

Please follow the suggestions in these threads (in sequence):

http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread27519.html

http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread27570.html

http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread28196.html

After you've completed the steps in post #1 of the Specific Fix thread, go to post #5 (first), and then post #2.

Post a new HijackThis log when the suggested steps have been completed, along with the Ewido log (from the instructions in post #5).

Okay ... I've done the steps, the ones I can. I have not tried to update Windows, even though I think I am up-to-date, because of the caution not to install patches until a machine is clean. Also, I have not re-installed a firewall for the same reason. I'd tried a few, but had trouble with them. Zone Alarm worked best and I'll re-install that once this machine is clean.

I have emptied the Prefetch and Temp files several times in the process of rebooting and cleaning. I have run Spybot S&D, Spyware Doctor, MS Antispyware, Ad Adware, Ewido, and have SpyBlaster with Mozilla and Firefox running. As well as having Norton Antivirus and Systemworks. I had already followed the steps of the first post before my initial posting.

I've added KillBox onto the machine as instructed but have not used it since I don't know what to use it on and don't want to guess and make matter worse. Also added CClean per instructions.

I was instructed to remove Axdio3d.dll from the Windows/system32 folder on a different forum and it removed itself the first time, only to reappear and then refused to be removed the next time I found it. Should I use KillBox on this?

The following is the HighjackThis log and the last Ewido log. I ran Ewido again after this and it came up clean. However, when I rebooted this machine (offline with the cable turned off) I once again received a prompt that a program was trying to access "icannnews.com" and "licenseverify.com" I think these are part of BookedSpace, but that is theoretically no longer on this sytem. Ewido cleaned Adware.BetterInternet in its last scan.

Since I am now online, I assume they are reaching out to those sites and I will soon be re-infected all over again.

(sigh) What am I missing here?

Thanks .... Jill

Another forum responded that I have but one little nasty left on the machine, Axdio3d.dll. I have repeatedly removed it with Highjack This by checking/fixing it in the log, as well as using the Config option to remove the file from the system32 folder on reboot. I have done this at least twice and this little devil will not leave!

I added KillBox to this machine at the recommendation of this forum, but you caution everyone not to use it without specific instructions. I am very tempted to use it now but am not sure which options are the best for this pain-in-my-um, neck.

What options do I pick to finally be free of this little monster?

Killbox choices

Standard File Kill
Delete on reboot
Replace on reboot

And the options to combine with these:
End Explorer Shell While Killing File
Unregister .dll Before Deleting

My urge is to use the standard kill and unregister it at the same time. yes? no? Any ideas? Who know one little file could be such and incredible pain.

Thanks -- Jill

As per instricted in another forum, I tried to remove the little devil (axdio3dl) with KillBox, twice. The first time didn't work, so I selected the "unregister" option to see if that helped. Nope. I received the same message each time:

PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!

And yes, the program included that exclamation point itself.

Has something been altered within Windows itself? A file removed? I know that I have work to do on this machine once this little demon is removed, Internet Explorer will not boot because it says a file (blank.exe) is needed and missing. I figured that I probably deleted that accidentally at some point and wasn't worried about it. Should I be?

I reran Highjack and everything is the same as last time except that line now reads:

020 - Winlogin Notify: H323TSP - C:\WINDOWS\system32\axdio3dl.dll

And as I signed on and was en route to here, Ewdio popped up and stopped Look2Me from adding something into my temp folder. (I'll run a scan once I'm offline to clean up anything that's gotten on the machine.)

So, Oh great and powerful Wizard of Oz, what do I try next?

Thanks -- Jill

Mr. Wizard! Mr. Wizard, where are you???

Hmm, doesn't seem to be any wizard around here at the moment...

Let's see if I can help. Try this:

Open NotePad (or WordPad), copy the contents of the 'Code' below , and paste it into NotePad:

cd System32
attrib -s -r -h axdio3dl.dll
del axdio3dl.dll

Go to File, Save As and type the filename as Remove.bat, save it to your Desktop, and then close NotePad.

Reboot into Safe Mode.

Scan with Hijackthis and have it fix the following entry:

020 - Winlogin Notify: H323TSP - C:\WINDOWS\system32\axdio3dl.dll

Close any open windows and hit Fix checked.

Double-click on the file Remove.bat, and a DOS-type window should open and close quickly, this is normal. (If the window does not close by itself, you can close it after few seconds.)

Go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and delete axdio3dl.dll.

Do a search for axdio3dl.dll and delete any instances found.

Empty your Recycle Bin and reboot normally.

Close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log along with your last Ewido log please.
