My sister's computer is the same model computer that I have, You can look up my computer's specs on my profile because i put it there right? If not just ask. Any ways, Norton Antivirus Realtime Protection Scan keeps finding this Trojan.Vundo.B. We updated all antivirus and spyware programs, Norton, Spybot, AdAware, spyblaster. We followed the Norton website's instructions to get rid of it (i think there was a tool and/or update that could allow us to get rid of the trojan), but nothing worked, The norton antivirus program just keeps notifiying us about the trojan. So we took the PC of the network to avoid spreading and it has not used the internet or LAN since. The number of notifications increases every few seconds(for the same trojan). I tried spyware removal tools, they did nothing for it. Norton Realtime Scan says the following actions were taken: clean failed, quarantine failed, access denied. We can not delete it with norton either. Here is a Hijackthis log i did of her computer. I'm sending this with my computer wich is clean.

5. Turn off System Restore. Do Start->Control Panel->System, System restore. Check "Turn off System Restore" and reboot.
6. Locate the file that you just downloaded.

9. Restart the computer.
10. Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.
11. Re-enable System Restore.(Check the box)
12. If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, reconnect the computer to the network or to the Internet connection.
13. Reboot when done and post another log please.

here is the new Hijack this log, but the tool said it did not find Trojan.Vundo on the computer and there were no sings that the trojan was removed, Norton keeps finding it with the realtime scan, so I didn't reconnect it to our LAN or internet.

You have some entries there that need removing.

===============

We'll need to unload Spybot's Teatimer before we begin. To do this can you start Spybot and go to Tools > Resident and uncheck the box next to Tea-Timer. Make sure that the icon in the system tray is no longer there. If it is, just right click on it and select "Exit". Do not forget to re-enable it when we are done :).

===============

Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

OR

You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u avad.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

===============

Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\WINDOWS\assembly

Search for...

ALCXMNTR.EXE

...using "Start | Search...".

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

It won't let me delete C:\WINDOWS\assembly because it says it is being used by another person or program.

You may have to go to the sub-folders and delete any other files/folders within that folder.

there was about 200 other items in that folder and I couldn't find any I could delete. It just said that it was being used by another program, even in safe mode.

Can you delete just this file then;

C:\WINDOWS\assembly\NATIVE~1.432\CUSTOM~1\avad.dll

that file doesn't exist, It probably got deleted when I opened assembly and highlighted all the files and pressed delete, so I guess some of those files did get deleted.

OK. Just post me another hijackthis log please.

Here is the latest hijackthis log

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

===============

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.
