Please help! i just had to reformat my computer to get rid of another virus, and before i've even got all of my programs back on the computer, it's infected again! I need help!

twista21,

Hi and welcome to the Daniweb forums :).

===============

Please visit at least two of the following sites for an online virus scan:

BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
Make sure you tick AutoClean under Scan Options.

Panda ActiveScan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
Make sure you tick Disinfect automatically under Scan Options.

Housecall at TrendMicro
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Make sure you tick Auto Clean.
When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

===============

Next, Open a command prompt by:

1. Clicking "Start", then "Run...".
2. Enter "cmd" (without the quotes).
3. Enter "services.msc" (without the quotes).

-

Now, locate and 'stop' the following services, if present:

NTFSprotect (ntfsdiscman) owner ... (C:\WINDOWS\ntfsprotect.exe)

Look carefully, since the name of the service (above) can be anywhere in the entry; also be careful not to 'stop' any required system services. Once stopped, set this service to disabled.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\ntfsprotect.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Still in HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O4 - Global Startup: BTTray.lnk = ?

O23 - Service: NTFSprotect (ntfsdiscman) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\ntfsprotect.exe

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\ntfsprotect.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

well, i tried to do all that you said, but i couldnt' keep a stable internet connection long enough to do the internet scans. i did the rest though. Norton says i still have the hacktool, but it quarantined it this time. here's my new hjt log. Thanks for everything!

Download and run blacklite
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan then > next,
If any items show, have blacklite rename them except for wbemtest.exe"
Do not rename "wbemtest.exe" its a windows file.
The tool will ask if you want to reboot, (restart) choose yes.
Note: csyew.exe and dmwlr.exe are randomly named files.
Click here and here to see a picture.

After you have rebooted post back with blacklites log, it will be next to the program.

:cheesy:
well, everything seems to be working now. after i posted last night, i thought i'd scan with ewido just for kicks, and it found something it wasn't able to clean, but was able to delete, and now norton is unable to find anything wrong. i downloaded f-secure blacklight, and it found nothing either, and i'm able to stay on the internet. thank you so much for all of your help, this has to be the most useful place on the web!

You are welcome :).
