i seem to have the pesky my way search assistant icon in the add/remove programs box and there is no remove button. this seemed to be preinstalled on my dell inspiron 6000 and i havent noticed it until now.

first i scanned with both spybot 1.4 and ad-aware (with settings as recommened by other users) and they show no sign of it. also checked with bazooka and spysweeper spy audit and still nothing. finally i did hijack this, but i searched through the log file and could not tell if anything was out of place. i will post log if necessary

reading from a previous topic, i also went to dells tech forums that had instructions on how to fix the problem but none of their fixes worked.

finally did a scan of the registry via windows and a external program and searched through the windows 32 folder and all i found was a dellforme.com/myway but not the actual program.

so does this mean the thing is gone or its lingering somewhere on my system?

here is the hijack this log

Download HijackThis self-extracting zip version from here. Once downloaded, double click on the file & it will install into it's own, permanent folder.
Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

sorry crunchie ive modified my post to reflect the hijackthis log, so the log is in my original post

These are the only references to it in your log. The 03 entry is an old McAfee one.

As you can see, it's not showing up in hijackthis' uninstall list, so I am not sure why it shows up in the add/remove. You should have been able to locate it in the registry location I gave you.

Try this;

Go here http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ and download, unzip and run the Registry Search Tool. Type My Way Search Assistant or My Way in the dialog box. Let it run and after a few minutes, a prompt will appear. Click OK to write the results to Notepad and post them here.

here is the result from the registry search tool.
