Hello All

I have a problem with a laptop, something is causing the browser to open and display various ads.

Urls such as
www.searc-h.com/normal/yyy34.html
www220.paypopup.com/links.php?data (etc)

I have run Ad-Aware SE and it does not pick anything up!

I need help - thanks

Hi,
Download Ewido and install it. Then run, you will receive a warning message saying "Database not found", click "OK" for this. Next in the main screen, click "Update" and click "Start Update".
After the update process, click on the "Scanner" button in the left menu, then click on the "Complete System Scan" button.
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "Clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.

Download HijackThis and unzip it to dedicated folder (like C:\HijackThisFolder\hijackthis.exe).
Then run it and click the button Do a System scan and save log file. HijackThis will perform a scan and saves the log file as hijackthis.log in the same folder where it is installed and it also opens the file automatically. Copy the entire contents of the file and post it here along with the Ewido log.

Thanks for the reply here are the logs

Hi,
Sorry, it took me long time to reply. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

My turn to apologise, I was away for a few days, really appreciate your help, here is the log.....

Hi,
Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. If it doesnt give any log automatically then double-click on the file named Second.bat (which will be in the same folder as l2mfix.bat file).

Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

here are the two logs:

L2Mfix 1.04a

Hi,
One file related to L2M still exist. Please run the L2MFix with option number 2 again.

Also, download WinPFind.ZIP and completely extract it to a folder. Then run WinPFind.exe and click "Start Scan". When the scan completes, click "Copy to Clipboard" button to copy the log it gives, and please post it here along with L2MFix and a new HijackThis log.

Hello All

I have a problem with a laptop, something is causing the browser to open and display various ads.

Urls such as
www.searc-h.com/normal/yyy34.html
www220.paypopup.com/links.php?data (etc)

I have run Ad-Aware SE and it does not pick anything up!

I need help - thanks

Hi Mukul,
Download HijackThis and unzip it to dedicated folder (like C:\HijackThisFolder\hijackthis.exe).
Then run it and click the button Do a System scan and save log file. HijackThis will perform a scan and saves the log file as hijackthis.log in the same folder where it is installed and it also opens the file automatically.

Next, start a new topic in Viruses, Spyware and other net nasties section by clicking the "New thread" button at the top-left corner of that page. In that new topic, post the contents of the HijackThis log file.
