Hi,
Download WinSockXPFix. Do not use it now!

Download Ewido and install it. Run it, in the main screen, click "Update" and click "Start Update". After the update process, exit from Ewido.

Download CCleaner and install it. Do not run it now.

Hi,
Download WinPFind.ZIP and completely extract it to a folder. Do not run it now!

Boot to Safe Mode and run HijackThis and click Do only a System scan. Then put a check mark infront of below listed entries:-

O2 - BHO: Need2Find Bar BHO - {4D1C4E81-A32A-416b-BCDB-33B3EF3617D3} - C:\Program Files\Need2Find\bar\1.bin\ND2FNBAR.DLL (file missing)

Close all other open programs except Hijackthis and click the button Fix Checked in HijackThis. After this, close HijackThis.

Make sure you delete these folders:-
C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner
C:\Program Files\Need2Find
C:\Program Files\Media Gateway
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NEWDOTNET

Next, run WinSockXPFix and click "RegBackup" and backup the Registry. Next, click "Fix".

Restart the System. Run WinPFind.exe and click "Start Scan". When the scan completes, click "Copy to Clipboard" button to copy the log it gives, and please post it here along with a new HijackThis log.

Hi,
Followed instructions and heres the results.

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hi,
Download KillBox, extract it to your desktop.

Open Killbox.exe. First click on Tools > Delete Temp Files. A box will open with a list of all user profiles.

Check the following boxes at a minimum for each profile by clicking on the drop down and checking the boxes that are enabled. Some will not apply and those boxes will not be available to check. Make sure you do this for all the profiles listed.

Temporary Internet Files
Temp Files
XP Prefetch

If you want to clean your cookies, history, and list of recent files run you may check those boxes as well.

Then, Check on the Button titled "Delete Selected Temp Files". Exit by clicking the Button titled "Exit(Save Settings)". Once back into the main Killbox program.

Check the following box:-

Delete on Reboot

Highlight all the entries in the quote box below and then Copy them.

C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_38.exe
C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_98.exe
C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall7_14.exe
C:\WINDOWS\p7Jub

Then in Killbox click File > Paste from Clipboard.

At this point the "All Files" button should be enabled so you can click it. Click the "All Files" button.

Then click the Red X button and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click "Yes".

A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click "Yes" to allow the reboot.

Note: Killbox will let you know if a file does not exist.

If you have any issues with this method you can copy and paste the lines one at a time into the killbox top box. Then click the "Single File" button. Then click the Red X and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes. A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click No until the last one at which time you click yes to allow the reboot.

After this, scan this file at either http://www.virustotal.com or http://virusscan.jotti.org/ , and if its found infected, delete it:-
C:\WINDOWS\termsvrs.exe

Also, do you know anything about these files, if not, please scan them at any one of above mentioned sites, and delete them if they are found infected:-
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\netstat.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ping.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskkill.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tasklist.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tracert.com

After this, perform an online virus scan at Kaspersky Online Scanner (Click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button). Save the log it gives after the scan and post back the same.

Hi,
followed instructions again and have posted the scan results from Kaspersky. The only problem i encountered was i couldn't find C:\WINDOWS\termsvrs.com so couldn't delete it
and it was infected.

Hi,
Using KillBox, delete these files as well (use the procedure mentioned in my previous post):-

C:\WINDOWS\termsvrs.exe
C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00175566.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\df_kmd.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\glmtofmt.dll

After this, scan the PC with your Norton AntiVirus and check whether it detects Hacktool.Rootkit or not.

Hi Swatkat,

you are officially a hero. Ran Norton and no files detected. Thanks very much.

Regards,

Bigste180.
