It's been a long time since I had this happen and now I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of about:blank. I've read thru a number of forums, each with their own different methodology, but yours seems to be the definitive. I'm no geek...I know just enough to get into occasional troubles. Hoping for your help.

Based on what I've read, I've done a HJT and following are the logfiles. Thank you in advance.

BTW, this seems to have damaged my notepad.exe so that it won't open on my local. Is that common?

Thanks,

Greg

Reboot normally.
I see that you've had a system crash. Recommend that you do this:

Go to system properties (right click MyComputer > properties) > Advanced tab > under startup and recovery click settings > under System failure make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked AND that "Automatically restart" is UNchecked. Then under *write debugging info* select (none) > Click "OK" and reboot.

If you crash again, write down the entire STOP message.
You can check it at this resource.

Wow, that was easy!

Thank you very much for the prompt reply and excellent instructions. I did everything
as you intructed and viola! No more about:blank.

One quick question though, after doing everything I got a new icon on my desktop called "desktop.ini". Can I delete it or move it somewhere without causing problems?

All the best,

Greg

That probably appeared due to booting insafe mode. Did you boot back to normal?

I just realized as I read your note that I never went back to change the settings under "my computer" to hide files. I just did and it hid and all is as it should be. Thank you so much for the help and how in the world do you handle so many emails in a day? I see all the new posts and I'm just looking at one topic, yet you are getting back to me with such an insignificant question....amazing!

(Is it the kibble?)

All the best,

Greg

I have to do something after finishing work to wind down :) .
Glad to help.

Marking as solved... :)

Regardless, your help was very much appreciated. Thank you very much and
yes, mark as solved.
