I have been reading alot of other posts in this section and I have a very similar problem. A few nights ago I got on my computer and noticed that my internet was taking an unusually long time to load pages, and sometimes even failing. I also noticed that my dvd drive is taking about 2 times as long to perform functions (Reading, Burning, Ect..). I have ran spybot S&D and deleted everything that it found. I have mcaffee antivirus and it has been ran 2 times. I just got Hijack This and ran it as well as AVG spyware program. I will post the logs at the end of this post. I need help please!!!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

you should check your registry to see if you have a corrupt file of if there is something hiding in there sometimes things are cleaver enought to hide in system files so they dont get detected also some registry files can slow down your pc when they become corrupt and you dont always know they are bad. Try this and see if it works

I dont know how to check the registry for bad or corrupt files. How do i do that?

For a start, go CP > add/remove pgms and uninstall MyWebSearch, MyFunProducts, MyWayxxxxxx, etc, and ViewPoint.
Go to pgm files and delete the folders for the above.
Start hijackthis, do a Scan Only and place checkmarks for fixing against the entries listed below, and press Fix Checked.

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...4YYUS_ZZzer000

Good, rescan and post a fresh log.
IF you look at your log you will notice in the Rx entries your homepages: do you use those? cos we can emove them and set one you like...,
-the O2, O3 entries: do you like the yahoo and mcaffee toolbars, the yahoo button? [ My IE pages have two lines of "objects" at the top, which incl the address bar - it's the bare minimum...but if I ever ran IE at full screen i would reduce it to one line only]. Java update is a pest now unless you do it custom way, cos otherwise it gives you a toolbar. niceof em.....
-the O4's: soooo much stuff is starting with your sys. Do you always need Adobe reader to start without you wanting to read anything, or your sound sys, or yahoo msgr, or a bit torrent client, or itunes, quicktime, photo downloader, etc...
These things start at turn on if you let them, and then stay resident in your RAM, chewing your resources n snowing your sys. Some of them could go cos you can start them when you need them. Eg, adobe reader starts if you wish only when you dclick a doc, closes when you close it...if you set it that way.
Skip the reg cleaning for the mo....

I forgot to mention that after i deleted thoes hijack entries, my unwanted internet explorer items disappeared but the program is still running the same

Sigh. that log is clean now. All i can suggest is that you run a cleaner [disk clean or CCleaner], defrag. Do you use all those yahoo search bars and home page etc? Go into the java panel and set it to update once monthly [or weekly]... The AVG scan only reported tracking cookies, so no spyware there.
I really do not know what the problem can be..

CCleaner
===Get CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ - and put it in a new folder. You should aim to keep this one for general use. I set it from the install checkboxes to only open from the recycle bin. It's neater that way.
Now run Ccleaner from the recycle bin rclick menu using its default settings [if you set up CCleaner as i suggested, rclicking the bin icon should give you the Open CCleaner option...]. Select the Cleaner icon and the Windows tab; press Run Cleaner. Next select the Applications tab and Run Cleaner again.
[For future quick temp file cleaning select the options you wish to use. Note that CCleaner is also a free registry cleaner. Explore all its options, but skip the prefetch folder cleaning option. That one is a furphy, much loved on some websites, but cleaning it is unnecessary because windows automatically dumps old unused entries anyway, they can do no harm, and further, if there is no prefetch entry for an app you wish to load then your sys will just be a lil bit slower loading it. And an entry will then be generated anyway.]

You don't know what it is, but it doesn't stop you from ALWAYS suggesting that people remove viewpoint toolbar or media player. Have you noticed a trend perhaps? I have. People always come back and say I removed viewpoint player/toolbar and it didn't help my problem. I wonder why that could be. Couldn't be because it had NOTHING TO DO WITH IT could it?

I worked for viewpoint and we spent a long time making that media player to make the Internet more visually appealing (3D and Flash and SVG graphics all in one player). The toolbar is also one of the more useful search toolbars with its dynamic icons. Just like most other media players it occasionally checks if it needs updating and you fools mark it as adware.

Try looking at the evidence sometimes instead of the hype. You've never had any popup ads appear and you've never had any spying and you've never seen a reduction in PC performance because of any viewpoint software. Go ahead and provide some more links to backup your paranoia but they'll be just posts like this one, they start out misinformed and they remain that way.

Joe, i don't recall saying that Viewpoint was adware, or spyware, or calling it anything, really. I know that it is not, and I also knew that it was not the trojan version of that .exe when I called it because AVG would have thrown it out. I merely suggested that a correspondent remove "your" genuine toolbar in an attempt to speed up his browser [that it was in the same sentence as My WebSearch is just a coincidence, no more than a literary convenience. Browser add-ons such as toolbars take resources; frankly speaking, I cannot understand people cluttering their browser windows with any extraneous lines, even google or yahoo toolbars - these things can be started manually if needed. .
I do not know his pc vital statistics, so I feel vindicated in suggesting its removal; posters are their own people- he can reinstall it at will. I would like to point out this line of his [and I give it in its full context,I am not shrinking from the fact, here..] "my unwanted internet explorer items disappeared but the program is still running the same".
I am pleased that you are proud of your work, everyone should be. Me, I'm just fooling in the dusk trying to help someone, I'll try many things as they occur to me. And who is to say that a corrupted toolbar or other browser add-on is not hindering his browser? I did ask him about the yahoo bar also. Not trying to be smart, or mean here.

Joe, i don't recall saying that Viewpoint was adware, or spyware, or calling it anything, really. I know that it is not

OK - there's so many of these forums though that the first thing they tell people to do when they have problems is uninstall viewpoint. It's mostly because they don't know what it is.
:@

Very likely so. It could also have something to so with the distribution method, in that it is a bundled software with the likes of AOL etc which can irk ppl, but of course the choice is there upon installation whether to include it or not . In the bundling aspect it is not alone, both google and yahoo toolbars get packaged nowadays. Plus of course, the baddies. I can understand your frustration, it must be a tough mkt to crack.
Cheers, g.
