This is my first post here.

I have been having this problem for a few months and cannot figure
out why!

When I try to go to a javascript "new" window at any website, I get
"Page cannot be Displayed" and the Address Bar reads "javascript:reqWin4('part1.html'). This is just an example.

If I try to click on "Detect Network Settings", I get another "Page Cannot be
Displayed" and Address bar reads "javascript:doNetDetect()"

I'm running Windows 2000 (with all Microsoft updates) on a Pentium 4 machine.

I effectively cannot use any website that uses javascript.

This problem occurs in IE6, Netscape 7.1 and Firefox!

Yes - - Active Scripting and Java are enabled in ALL of my browsers.

I have restored default settings for ALL browers.

I have re-registered all DLLs mentioned in other posts to no avail.

I have downloaded and run AdAware, Spybot, Trojan Remover and
CWShredder and have fixed a few things that way, but nothing that helped
this problem.

I have re-installed IE6, no help.

I have Norton Anti-Virus (up-to-date) and run that every third day. I have also done a virus scan at the AVG Anti-Virus site (nothing found).

I am providing the "HijackThis" log here and ANY help would be greatly
APPRECIATED!

Here it is and thanks in advance - - Mark

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

Will not fix the problem, but they need to go.

Next, type javascript:navigator.userAgent or just copy and paste it in your IE Address bar then hit enter.

Thanks Crunchie - - The items that you indicated have been fixed and removed using HijackThis.

I also copied and pasted the "javascript:navigator.userAgent" statement to the IE address bar and hit enter. I got a response that read "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)". Sadly, it has not fixed my javascript problem. The same thing still happens when I try to go to a javascript link that opens a new window (Page cannot be displayed....blah..blah..blah).

Do you have any other ideas/thoughts? I'm totally lost with this, as I've tried everything that I can think of.

Thanks again - - Mark

Hello Again,

Oh...I forgot to mention that last night I decided to find out how to allow ActiveX controls, Java applets and scripting on a site by site basis in my Norton Personal Firewall, which I did for the three or four sites that I'm using to check (and test) this problem. That did nothing toward fixing this problem. I really didn't think it would help as I've tried the javascript link thing with my firewall disabled (only for the seconds that it takes to test this).

I've also completely deleted MS VM from IE and installed Java from the Sun site. I realize that Java and javascript are two entirely different things, but hey, what can I say - - I'm desperate!

Also, in case you wanted to see it, here's my HijackThis log after the above steps:

Your assistance is really appreciated! I'm pretty computer literate, but when it comes to javascipt, I admit I don't have a clue!

- - Mark

OK, now I feel like I’m rambling…post after post, etc.!

But, I have another problem that I’m thinking might be interrelated to my javascript problem here.

When I visit certain web sites (this one included), I get a “Done, but with errors on page. with the little yellow “! message in the bottom bar of IE.

If I click to get details on the error, it reads as follows:

Line: 363
Char: 14
Error: Expected ‘;’
Code: 0
URL: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread5690.html

the next error reads:

Line: 248
Char: 2
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread5690.html

and the rest of the errors after that read the same with a different line number

I get these errors on several web pages. The pages seem to work fine but I do get these errors.

Does anyone know if these types of errors might also be related to a javascript problem?

Sorry for all the consecutive posts.

Any help is really appreciated, as I’ve tried everything I can think of to resolve this javascript thing.

I consider myself pretty computer literate, but when it comes to javascript, I admit I’m totally lost.

Thanks again - - Mark

I have to admit to being at a loss too. Sorry. I don't get how it's affecting all browsers. Have you tried Opera to see if thats affected too?
