I have Toshiba M7 notebook with 1.5GB memory. CPU is Centrino duo 2300.

Recently, I installed Nokia PC suite and using that SW tried to install some appz on my Nokia phone. during that activity system crashed and I switched off the notebook by HW reset.

From that point on CPU usage of "services.exe" always over 50%!! Even in safe mode it is about 46 to 50%!!!

I have checked the system with antivirus, anti trojan, anti spyware and anti malware tools. Nothing found. Also I stopped all services (which I eligable to) one by one, but never seen the percentage below 50.

I also uninstalled Nokia SW's but this did not help.

Please help me?

I browsed through the hijackthis log, but nothing glares out at me that could be a problem.

doublecheck that all the anti-virus software you use is properly updating first. also check that your windows firewall is working properly (ie, no group settings on it, etc.)
if you can't update, or your firewall is turned off, then you've got something.

if you can update properly, the nokia software might have changed something it wasn't supposed to. It might have gotten something messed up from crashing it. Sounds silly, but try re-installing the nokia software, and try to transfer the applications over again.

First off all, thanks Dortz.

Firewall is on and my NOD32 is updating fine.

By the way I became not able to re-install Nokia PC suite! It fails on every try!

Ok, that means something got left behind from the initial installation.

first step, since you still have full control over everything, backup. anything that you can not afford to lose, make sure you have a copy of it. even with just doing a repair installation, there is a chance that something might go wrong. It is far better to be safe than sorry in this case.

next, get your system disks that came with the computer. you'll need the 'os install' disk, usually it will be labled with 'XP installation' disk or something like that. Some newer computers might also have a 'recovery partition' that is on the hard drive. that would take the place of the os install disk in this case.

If you know how to do a repair install, skip this next paragaph:
start by putting the disk in if you have it, and shutting the computer down. then, turn it back on, and press either F2, F10, or whichever option that your bios has to bring up the 'boot options' menu. if you are working from a disk, you will select 'cd drive'. if you are working off of a recovery partition, there will be an option to boot to that. One of those will boot into the installation mode for XP. Once there, you will have a few options. you want to choose 'Recovery.' Be sure to read through the options, and follow the onscreen directions. The Recovery option will basically just re-install the operating system, and keep all your current programs and files. Also, be sure your laptop is plugged into power for this process, as it would be very bad if it ran out of juice right in the middle of this.
Once finished with the repair installation, boot the computer normally, and check on services.exe again. If it hasn't been fixed, the next option is to do a 'full' reinstall. that is where you do all the same exact steps, but instead of choosing to repair, you will wipe the hard drive, and install a full, fresh copy of XP. all of your data on the drive will be gone after you do this though. you will need to reinstall all your programs, and put all your backed up data back onto it.

Good luck.
