"The procedure entry point RichEdit10ANSIWindProc could not be found in the dynamic link library RICHED20.dll"

This is the message that I get when the installation of my Verizon USB720 usb modem software fails. Trying to install on XP SP2 desktop; when I search for RICHED20.dll, I find it in the Service Pack folder, the System 32 folder, and the Office10 folder.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Software installed fine on the XP SP2 notebook computer, so I figure its Windows on the desktop that is missing a file or something....

Go to Windows Update site and dl KB918118 into your desktop machine.

Downloaded, installed, restarted computer, tried to install new program and still got the GLB2.tmp Entry Point Not Found message. What next?

Clarification:
I downloaded the KB98118 update, installed that update, restarted the computer, tried to install VZAccess Management Software for a USB720 modem, which caused the original GLB2 flag in the first place, and still got the "GLB2.tmp Entry Point Not Found" message. What next?

Ken, I think you may have some malware on your computer... GLB2.tmp... so:
==Get CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ - and install it in a new folder. You should keep this one for general use. I set the installation checkboxes only to open from the recycle bin. It's neater that way.
Now run CCleaner from the recycle bin rclick menu using its default settings [if you set up CCleaner as i suggested, rclicking the bin icon should give you the Open CCleaner option...].
If you have FireFox open the Applications tab and ensure at least that Cookies and Cache are checked.
Select the Cleaner icon, press Run Cleaner.
==Download this file to your desktop: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
- to run it dclick combofix.exe and follow the prompts to start it. When finished, it will produce a log, C:\Combofix.txt - post that log in your next reply.
A word of caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs reboot to restore the desktop.
==download hijackthis: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5554.html
-copy it to a new FOLDER placed either alongside your program files or on your desktop and then... rename hijackthis .exe to imabunny.exe
-in that folder start HijackThis by dclicking the .exe; now close ALL other applications and any open windows including the explorer window containing HijackThis.
-click the Scan and Save a Logfile button. Post the log here.

OK. I"m downloading CCleaner as I type, but it's after 11pm here and I have to get up before 6am, so will have to call it a day. Thanks for the protocol, be patient and I'll get back with the results probably Thursday as I have an extremely full day tomorrow.
Until then,
Ken

What the heck--I'd like to upgrade from dial-up, no? So I downloaded CCleaner, ran it, got around 4 MB cleaned off, ran the other 2 programs and the results are displayed below. As you can see, my kids play on this computer quite a bit. So good night, and I look forward to your analysis when I pull it back up on Thurs.
Ken

Nothing to worry about there, Ken. [You've got busy, but good, kids.. :) ...I'm happy to take your word for it that you don't play Chicken Shoot and Rosso Rabbit.]

Good. These are not bad entries, merely ones which have been orphaned by file deletion.
I suggest you search for and delete GLB2.tmp; I imagine it will be in system32 or perhaps Windows directories, in any case search for it in \WINDOWS.
Say how your next Verizon installation attempt proceeds.

Hey, it worked--thanks so much for your assistance. I've just said goodbye to dial-up now that the usb pc card is installed.

So tell me if I got it--the CCleaner got rid of excess registry bloat, the Combofix and the HijackThis looked for potential malware in different ways, and once that was negative, deleting the GLB2.tmp allowed the Verizon installation to proceed?

Would you recommend that I use these programs in the future, and if so, how often?

Thanks again!
Ken

Glad to hear it, Ken. The tools: definitely keep CCleaner, it is very handy to use fortnightly, say, esp if you set it up as I indicated I preferred.
Hijackthis and Combofix... you only need these tools when you can identify an actual problem exists, and in the case of Combofix know if it will be useful against it. Anyway, combofix will automatically timeout after about a week and uninstall itself if you try to use it. So remove them and their logs. Combofix has a remover built in which you can run... Go start, run and enter:
C:\downloads\combofix /u
Still leaves a few items tho. Combofix places its files in C:\... eg qoobox, the log, and builds a folder from which to run - you may just delete them manually. Hijackthis..? up to you, I think it is handy to keep a log fro reference.
