Holy crap!! No wonder it takes so long to start and I totally agree that these should be stopped.
The only programs you need to start when Windows starts are security programs, ie; anti-virus, firewall, spyware.

baffling isn't it !

baffling isn't it !

Can see a few things which should remain though (beyond those already highlighted) :

Those processes which load up HW drivers (may loose device functionality by disabling those from boot).

Would also look at what auto-update processes you need to keep - this will largely depend on how often you check for updates manually. Is often a good idea to leave the Java update engine running, as most of said updates include security fixes.

Keep this one only if using the network features of Windows Media Player (ie, shared media devices or libraries)... waste of resources otherwise.

uuuuhhh..hi i also have the same problem only that it takes much longer like more than 5 minutes i think to boot up my laptop. Before i t became like this i was surfing the net with tons of tabs and loaded several applications then afterwards the sound went off completly although the sound device working properly, then when i reboot my laptop it stays blank for 5 min or so before the os is loaded...my laptop is HP Pavilion dv6000
and OS is Vista home premium...i would really appreciate if anyone could tell me how to fix this problem.

Pls ensure your system sported with Vista. What configuration of your system.

If it became slow after you visited a lot of sites...you probably got some shady virus. Otherwise there's probably too much stuff running. Got Run > Msconfig > Startup and get rid of all useless stuff from there. Also in "Services" tab in the same place, check the box which says "Hide all microsoft services" and then get rid of whatever you don't really need.

I recommend a format though, if you've had the laptop for a long time.

Hi,

---iv already tried disabling the the useless startup stuffs..but still it wont work....it's like whenever I open the laptop there's audio available then all of a sudden after a few minutes its gone although the device manager detects the sound drive and although the sound icon is present...iv also tried upgrading the sound drive, but no use and then i tried system restore, still no effect.

We are looking for:
Machine make/model (ie Dell Inspiron or HP dv5000)
Processor (ie Intel or AMD, model, speed)
RAM (how much)
Operating System (ie XP Home, or Vista Home Premium)
This list isn't exhaustive, but it gives us a start.
