Is there a JavaScript api to look at methods? I googled and I didn't find anything familiar. I am used to the java api.

Look at the documentation provided by w3schools, Mozilla devleopment center and MSDN on Javascript.

If you use Macromedia Dreamweaver , it also comes with "pocket" references for :

Javascript, HTML, CSS, ASP,PHP and more ,

It is somewhat hidden for the newbie as is no part of the normal help file . Just press SHIFT+F1 or get it via menu in Help/Reference... then ,you have it... select the language you want in the 1st dropdown, the topics/suptopics in the other 2

It is not too detailed but for quick reference is generally good
