ok people lemme know what you think. thanks

Spend as much as you can on a PSU. Cheap ones are a false economy.

Do you have any in mind at the mo?

no, not really. the one i'm using currently cost me $15. and it's giving me a headache, plus i want to change my VGA to a GTX 9300 so i really need something good.

Where abouts in the world are you and do you want to buy from a local shop or via the net?

Also, a rough idea of budget would be handy.

ok, i'm in Ghana (west africa) and i'd get someone who is coming from the states or uk to get it for me. as i said, i'm working with below $50 (that is for the PSU).

What is the mains supply voltage in Ghana?

In that case you will be wanting a UK power supply.

You will need at least a 550 Watt PSU. Good luck finding one for $50.

Buy a cheap psu and run the risk of damaging more expensive PC parts.

ok, 550 it is. Someone was saying something about amps too, don't know much about that but i guess the 550 will do cos i'm using 450 right now.

Be careful it has enough AMPS on the 12v rail.

Look at 18 amps being the absolute minimum.

Corsair VX550 with 550 Watt has 41A at 12V.
