can't get my hp laser jet 1012 to automatically connect. the audio tone is heard when plugging it into the port, but it doesn"t recognize the found new hardware. any thoughts?

What is your OS? Any popup messages? When did it work last or did it ever work? What happened since then? Did you try another USB port on the PC and another USB cable? Did you try it connected to another PC to prove the printer's port is not pooched? What else have you tried?
