i need to change my sata mode from AHCI to IDE to reformat my laptop to windows XP. or else i will get a blue screen.
i am using Acer Aspire 4736. i jus want to know what is the consequences that i will experience when i change it.

Hi lonelyday91,

You will notice the following issues.
Hard Drive transfer rate will drop making the system seem slower.
If you have an existing operating system such as Windows already installed then you will be unable to boot unless you change the HAL (http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/issues-generic-images)
If you do change to IDE and install windows it will work just fine albeit with a slower hard drive...however you will be unable to switch back to AHCI mode without suffering a BSOD.
