Hope somebody can help me out with this problem, first my specs.
Cpu: Intel Q6600
RAM Acer 4gb ddr2 800mhz
Motherboard: Abit IP53--E
Video: Nvidia 8899gt
PSU: Toughpower 650W
Hard drive: SATA (not sure of brand) 250GB
OK so the problem, the computer has been working fine with no issues for about 18 months. Then a few days ago i boot it up and it freezes at the post screen and wont even let me into bios setup. So i turn it off and have a look inside, check everythings plugged in ect. I pulled out the hardrive cable and then plugged then back in.
Then i booted back up again and it started working again.
Next day same thing happens- freeze at post. Turn it off pull out SATA cable and remove CMOS battery for ten mins. Then turned it back, started working fine again. Then as it booted i noticed a clicking sound coming from the hardrive which goes for about 10 seconds during the boot.
And finally this morning same thing again. Freeze at post- turn off remove SATA cables - turn back on- works again. The harddrive is stilll clicking though.
So my first thoughts are faulty SATA Cables or a harddrive thats about to die. Any otehr ideas? Thanks
