I'm having some trouble with my girlfriends laptop. It's a dell Latitude D505. the issue is when you turn it on, the hard drive makes this kind of grinding sound and will get to the windows boot screen and will remain there. and when it doesn't do that it sounds like it isn't spinning a fast as it should. mind you this is a new hard drive. The old one was doing the exact same thing. I'm at a loss. and my girl is pissed at me for not being able to fix it..... HELP

Hi,
Download UBCD (see my signature), make a CD on your machine and boot her machine with it. Do a chkdsk and any other test there till you find a problem and fix it.
