recently been given a second hand Latitude CP that does not work. The orignal thought was a dodgy switch. I have stripped and freed this. The PC powers up then switches off after 30 secs or so and the BIOS does not even run. No noise from fan, hard or CD drive can be heard.

When stripped down earlier I noted sand internally; yes it had been used on the beach by some hippy. I have seen other dianostics [on this site] and will try: 1. power cable rating [may have been swopped before I received it], 2. look at extra RAM, 3. fan maybe knackered [over heating], 4, reset CMOS.

Has any one got any other idea's to try? Could hard drive be suffering from sand ingress?
