old pc died, using windows xp pro, purchased lenovo with sata hd, using windows 7 pro how can i retrieve the data from my windows xp hd. can i use a usb?

sure,just pick up a usb external hdd case ,put your drive in it,make sure it ata/IDE if that whats the old dive is
