If it is still under warranty, take it to an HP Service Center. Several HP/Compaq laptop models seem to exhibit this type of behavior, which under some circumstances, HP blames on an outdated BIOS. Try removing the battery, AC adapter, Hard drive, memory, and optical drive (if you don't have to disassemble the laptop to do it) and then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Install the memory and connect the AC adapter and try to turn the laptop on. If it works, turn it off and reinstall the other removed components. If the laptop won't power up, try to use another AC adapter and also different memory. If you get the laptop to boot, you can run the HP System Health Check from the HP support site to see if you need to update the BIOS or other software.
