Another one of Choppyness....

I have an HP Laptop. All of the sudden the DVD's are being played all choppy. It just happened suddently literaly from one day to the other, I do not remember to have done anything different, and I definitely did not install any software? Other than than my DVD reads and burns. In fact, if I copy a movie to the hard drive it is played well, but not if I try to play it directly from the Disc.
It is as if suddenly reading from the DVD is taking much more time than before.

Any Ideas of what could be the problem?
