I have a toshiba laptop that froze. Next time I tried to start it, it brings up a message saying operating system not found, I still have the recovery disc. My question is if I use this will I lose everything already saved on my computer. I have many photos that I do not wish to lose.

Yes it will erase everything of yours if you do that. However, it sounds like your hard drive is dead and may be in need of replacement.
Before you get to worried try this first. Run a chkdsk utility first to check your hard drives integrity. If it fails, you need a new hard drive. If it passes, try these instructions of fixing the mbr from a previous post. http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread41835.html
