I've having problems with browsing and I cannot figure out what it is. 2 things frequently happen and they may or may not be related:
1. IE 6 pops up with with an error message stating it has encountered a problem and shuts down. It does this every time I close one of the windows in IE, and also at other seemingly randomn times.
2. I get an error message saying "3cmlinkw.exe" has generated errors and will be shut down, and I have to reboot to continue using the modem. This is why I suspect the modem, and I have tried downloading the newest drivers and this did not fix the problem. This happens even if I am using Firefox.
This problem is driving me crazy and since I had some other problems I even did a clean install of Windows 2000 pro and that did not fix the 2 problems above, which leads me to believe it is not a virus or spyware problem.
The modem is a U.S. Robotics 65K Win modem, internal. I used with an older computer, running Windows 98 and it worked much better, however I do remember 3cmlnkw.exe shutting down, but very rarely with the other computer/OS. I had no problems whatsoever with IE 6 shutting down on my old compiuter, so maybe that is a separate issue?
I hope somebody can help me with at least one of them.
