I recently bought a used presario 700. It's a POS, I know. I bought it dead for 50 quid. Now, it's up and running.
I still have 2 problems with it:
1- I'd like to buy a dvd/rw which can fit in this POS. the actual model has only cd-rw/dvd combo and it's not working. Any idea about compatible models? I'm not looking at the size or connector as these are pretty standard in most laptops. what I'm looking to find is a dvd-rw that i can replace its bezel with the compaq one so it can still look like the original. as not all dvds have their open button/manual open/led at the same place.
2- MORE IMPORTANT: the laptop works fine on the battery and works fine on the AC adaptor. the problem is when the battery is discharged and I connect the AC adaptor to charge it. It doesn't charge. I've to turn off the laptop. take the AC plug out for few seconds and then replug it again. Now, it starts charging.
I noticed when I connect the AC for the first time, the battery led blinks then it stops (off) and the charging current flowing to the battery is zero "identifed by a software". it can remain like this forever, the battery charge not getting worse or better. when the adaptor is removed and plugged again while the laptop is off, the battery led blinks for a bit and then it stops but this time (on) which means the battery is charging.
Also, I can now turn on the laptop and the battery will remain charging. Any idea ???
