I recently purchased an 150GB Sumsung SATA HD because my current 60GB IDE Maxtor drive is nearly full and quite old.
I hooked everything the SATA HD up and started my system. It was still running of my old HD so I went to Computer Manager etc and formatted the new HD. So now I can save stuff on either drive, but what I would really like to do is to have my new SATA HD be my main drive.
So I put in my XP CD and went thru some blue screen stuff and when the partitioning screen came up, the new HD wasn't on there, only the old 60GB. So I unplugged the IDE cable from the old 60GB drive and started my PC again and it acted as if there was no hard drive and said it couldn't find a hard drive. But when I plugged the IDE cable back in everything was the same as it was before.
I tried changing boot priority but that didn't do anything.
I thought for sure that when I unplugged my IDE HD that I would atleast be able to install XP on the SATA drive that was still plugged in, but the PC acted as if nothing was there.
Anyone have any thoughts?
PS Motherboard is a ASUS P4S800D-E
